Adhd and Bordeline Personalty Disorder | ADHD Information

Hi all!  I have a question about Boderline Personality Disorder with ADHD.  I habe just been released from the Hospital because my mood was so down, I did something stupid.  The evaluated me and said ADHD/Borderline Personality Disorder for a diagnosis.  I was wondering if this is common or is there anyone who has the 2 together.

I am doing better with new meds, but I was wondering about support groups or anything anyone knows about it.

Hi Scats! I also have both BPD and ADHD. Their symptoms are very similar, although BPD is comes from your environment as a child. DBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, provides excellent tools and skills for both, however, it was created for BPD. Perhaps you can look into the availability of DBT classes where you live. I took it through a local Mental Health Center.

What is borderline Personality Disorder?? How do you develop it from your childhood?
Andiec1, Hi! My suggestion would be to go on line and search. There are some good sites that may be helpful. Search: BPD, or dialectical behavioral therapy

Why I mentioned stemming from childhood is because invalidation of our emotions and not knowing how to get our needs met because of that invalidation plays an important part. Also possible sexual abuse can have something to do with it, but not necessarily.

Have you been dx with BPD? And by whom? If you were, didn't they answer your questions? The sites and suggested books also help with someone who lives with a person with BPD.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I was just very curious about the disorder ever since I saw the movie "Girl, Interupted".  I never knew that BPD was a real disorder, and now hearing that someone actually has it in real life, I just was curious.

Hi. I just read a great book that explains BPD in detail.  Its "I hate you, Dont leave me"  I have read a few more, but if you need to know what it is that would be a great book.

As far as I read and can verify the symptons do start when you are young.  Good luck in your research!

Hi ya Scats! So glad to hear you're starting DBT classes. Let me know how it's going and what you think of it, once you get acclimated. Unfortunately, when I was seeing my counselor while in DBT, not much was said about ADHD -- course that could be because I wasn't dx'd for ADHD until I finished DBT.    You're lucky!
