AM I ADDICTED TO ADDERALL XR?

this is kind of scaring me here and i am need some advice desparately.

since starting the adderall xr 10 mgs for about two weeks now i have noticed a ringing very loud ringing in my ear.

so yesterday i did not take any meds at all.  i was going to stop for a few days to see if the ringing went away.

all day i thought about the adderall.  today i was not going to take it either.  i was going to go about five days or so without it to give it enough to stop ringing if that was it.

today i was in a foul mood.  irritable, grumpy, snappy..so around noon i finally gave in and took and though my mood is somewhat better not the best, but maybe after one full day of missing it i need it built back up again???

so what do you think?  could i be addicted to this med?  i'm worried how i thought about it al day yesterday and missed it, and now i wonder if this is how i was naturally BEFORE the meds, ugggh..sad thought.

It all depends on how you define addiction I suppose. If I don't get my coffee in the morning, if I don't get a power nap during the day, I get cranky and out of sorts. If you get accustomed to having a coffee every day I suppose you could call it addiction, but it's not like being a heroin addict. If you ran out of adderall you would have a few lousy days then snap back to normal.

For most people 10 mg's of adderall is any worse than coffee, and certainly better and safer than nicotine in cigarette smoke.  But, if you have an addictive personality it might be best to try something different.  There are many choices.

If you are worried about addiction have your doctor change your prescription to Wellbutrin, which is non-addictive and has a very high success rate for treating ADD.

My Dr. told me any medication he prescribes  he  cuts back slowly when discontinueing except for Prozac. Our brains get used to stuff and it's absence effects  everyone.  Some drugs  are phyiscally active, some are not  but, almost all  have some kind of rebound effect on mood/thinking  if the target organ is the brainI have always been concerned about addiction, so I try to keep the dosage low and I skip 2 days a week.  My doctor says it is okay.  I have an advantage though, which is that I am still a student in college, so other than homework I don't have many responsibilities,PLEASE READ! I would be very careful if I were you. I became severely addicted to adderall. It has been the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Adderall is an amphetamine and it makes total sense that people would become easily addicted to it. If you need the meds and you think you can control yourself with dosage then don't talk to your doctor about it. He will take your meds away. If you have a problem with self control or addiction in your family history... switch to a different med. It sounds like you're just experiencing some yucky side effects. Adderall does have withdrawal symptoms. Call your doctor and tell him about the ringing ears. He will tell you what's going on. It may be just an initial side effect that will go away but you have to call him to be sure. From what I understand, the ampethetamine class of drugs is not physically addictive. Adderall is addictive, my doctor told me and it is a stimulant.  I was on it for ONE WEEK, I had to stop because of heart problems.  I had this terrible headache and my chest was hurting.  I was rushed to the ER where they told me my body was experiencing withdrawl.  Please research all stimulants.  With all stimulants there is a possibility of addiction.Amphetamines are psychologically addictive meaning you think your body needs them. All medications are addictive and have the potential for abuse. I prefer stimulants to non stimulants because one they work for me but also they are only psychologically addictive as opposed to physically addictive (depression meds).

Of course adderall can be addictive but from what people above have written it sounds more like you're experiencing side effects from the medication (your body cannot tolerate it) and not withdrawal.

Is it even possible to be addicted to something if you only take it for a week?

You can't build up amphetamines in your body they're not that kind of medication. They work instantly and leave your body just as quickly. Which is different then how drugs like Straterra work where they need to build up in your system for a month or so before becoming effective. Of course it takes just as long for them to leave your system which is why you experience long periods of withdrawal when stopping those types of meds.

What sucks the most is every med work so differently in each of us that it can take awhile to find the medication that will help. I know I went through 2 years of trial and error before finding the right med for me. It's not fun but I wish you all the best of luck
