straterra concerns | ADHD Information

My 6 year old daughter was diagnosed with adhd inattentive type about 2 months ago.  Her dose of straterra has been changed several times due to problems we have had with her mood swings.  She is on the lowest dose possible but she is still having drastic mood problems.  I am considering switching meds but I have been told by docs that straterra is the weakest of all adhd drugs as far as stimulant.  I should add that my daughter is a leukemia survivor and has been taking meds most of her life.  I am not against her taking them if she needs them but we have all been thru a lot.  She is floundering in school and the teachers think her adhd is is exasterbating a learning disability she may have gotten from the chemo.  Does anyone else have a daughter who acts hyper on or off straterra?

This is advice from an ADHD suffererer. Concerta.

Ask about it!

Trooper One: Your story sounds exactly like mine!  My daughter's getting very very moody on the 25 mg. dose of Strattera.  She's 7 1/2 yrs. old and we have to try to lower the dosage and wean her off.  I guess it's back to the Concerta or something else again....It never ends.

Please let me know what you find out, regarding helping the moods get better!

Thanks!

Strattera with depakote best thing we did for our son. RSHN

Son's first Dr. said not ADHD.Autism has many forms. Our son did nothing(lifeless) before ECI at age 15 months. That's why autism also. You can have more than 1 problem also. We have seen 3 neurologists no anwers.I know I am not crazy. This child I noticed a difference at age 4 months.I feel ful assessment is necessary.Changing Dr.'s doesn't help. The one I mentioned has been most effective. The meds we are using I feel are working teacher agrees.

i was on strattera for two days and i had the worst mood swings ever, i couldnt stop crying and i had to stay in a room by myself because i couldnt feel like i could talk to people withought getting all mad.  i was on adderall and it is the best adhd drug out there! if u need a new med to put her on i highly suggest adderall! and no mood swings on that!

I have been told by my doctor that Straterra does give you mood swings, He put me on adderrall now and i am seeing differences by switching to it, I also take Depakote which is a Drug the doctor says helps with mood swings

All  drugs can have complications from what I am hereing?Should we all take them off? Do what you feel works best for your family.Ignore stupid notes/ calls unless major behavior issue.I have decided to do this. I find is long as they are doing something we make it.Todays kids don't have to think, computers do it for them.Sorry if I upset any one but it's the truth.I think we will be living like the Jetsons before long. What a shame ? What's going to happen to peoples brains? We will have something to do it for us. Why have a brain then!.You don't need to use it anymore.rshnMy son is on strattera for over a year now, seems to be working okay. But concerta worked better. We moved across the united states a year ago and the doctors here refused to give him concerta, so we got stuck with strattera.
