Beer and Ritalin | ADHD Information

My 25 year old son had great initial success when he started taking Ritalin.

Lately he has felt like his old self. He asked me to ask you folks if drinking nulified the effects of Ritalin?

When he first starting taking the drug he did not drink much......he still does not drink much, but will stop if it might be crossing out the Ritalin.

Cheers, LTB

Yes, Ritalin is a CNS stimulant, alcohol is a CNS depressant. In this stuggle alcohol will always win. A few beers at night is a good way for adults to ease out of the days Ritalin use. My Dr. wont treat people with ADD who drink. I think that says a lot  about what he thinks of it lol. I don't drink but...when I did...it sure never  made my thinking clearerHey all, I am the 25 (corrected, 24) year old son of Toy Brain. As you can see my dad has ADD and forgets how old I am :)
That is really good information concerning the effects of alcohol Vs Ritalin. My councilor and psychiatrist had nothing to mention about the effects witch led me to think 1 or 2 beers would be okay at night. After a while I started to feel worse and even more like the "ADD me" and eventually needing more beer at night. Vicious cycle!
If there is any more information regarding things to do/not do while medicating to help the process would be much appreciated.

Thanx

I don't believe there is any problem drinking a few beers at night, at that point you shouldn't need any Ritalin. You just use the stimulents to "make your brain work." There isn't any need to take them at night as you unwind.

One thing to note. If you are under the effects of Ritalin (i.e. you took it 1 hour ago) 1 beer will not give you the beer buzz you would get it you hadn't taken the Ritalin.
