Poll: Concerta & meds vacations | ADHD Information
I've always done med holidays with Concerta it
worked for us. We had to switch 2 Adderall XR and
noticed that Saturday was rough but Sunday would
be great. We just had anger issues all the way
around b/c of the rebounding in the afternoons (both
with Concerta and with Adderall XR, hwoever we had
violent behaviours with Adderall). At this point we're
struggling without the meds, planning to see a
psychiatrist in Feb. (our Ped referred me, not
knowing what to tell me anymore).
Hope that helps, I always tried to keep the weekends
relaxed. They just play, no real commitments for
time, etc. that's probably why med holidays worked
for me. I make no real demands during the
weekend, but it also gives him a chance to eat
(which he didn't do hardly at all on meds) He gained
maybe 2 pounds a year for the last 3 years. My son is on Concerta 27 with a Focalin 2.5mg twice a day only on school days. He gets the Concerta everyday, we have tried med free days and all we do is holler at him all day long, not good. But we do not give the focalin on non-school days and I notice a difference on Mondays where he does seem to focus a little better.
If you give your child Concerta now or have in the past did you give it every day or did you give medicine vacations?
If you gave vacations, did you notice any difference afterwards? Did the medicine work any better or worse or no change?
How long was the vacation if you gave one?
Thanks.
