ADDRN is correct in that ritalin and concerta are methylphenidate. (Concerta is a long-acting version)
As far as suggestions go, make sure you are informed before you make a decision. The pharmacist could be a great resource for information; try calling or stopping by to ask a few questions.
As for the preference--Every person responds differently to different medications so no matter what people say, unfortunately, it is still trial and error. I have personally taken both methylphenidate and amphetamine-mix medications. I find that I prefer amphetas because I find that I am less irritable, etc. I'm currently on adderall and adderall xr (have been for the past few years) and have found them to be working quite well. While on Concerta, in particular, I found that I was extremely lethargic and didn't really accomplish much, etc. While on adderall, I am more "myself"
Best of luck to you and keep us posted
i am currently still on adderall xr 10 mgs and i am thinking of going to the concerta now for financial problems.
i am worried about the concerta cause i read it can increase seizure threshold. i am a seizure condition but my dr. does not seem to be worried however i am!!!
he told me once that adderall has a higher incidence of causing seizures then ritalin..however he never mentioned concerta.
the nurse is switching me over and i do not know and she is gone now till monday so i can not ask her about it to ask the dr. and i do not see him till feb 26th.
i have a voucher for the concerta but am still scared about switching over. any suggestions?
which one do you prefer?
