Im 44 and just went thru testing for ADHD and I have some signs of it. I just cant remember what I read, focus in group situations, concentrate and that type of things as when she went down the list with me.
I wanted to get checked due to attending college and also online college. I can study for a month for a test and still fail it and then there are friends that are on addreall Xr and can study for a few days and pass with excellent grades.. just fusterating.. so the more I got to checking on things then I thought it dont hurt to be tested and see what happens.
I am taking 20mg of Addreall XR and it is not working for me. I dont have much of a appitite but that was to be expected she told me. But I think I must need a higher dose of this.
I just trying to figure out what will happen when I finally do get the right dose of it. But meantime it has been a very long 2 months here trying to get it all figure out. I was on for a month concerta and that did nothing so thru them down the toliet..
Hang in there and maybe call your doc back and talk with her again you might need a higher dose also..
I would just call your doc and see what they he/she say. To be honest I would just give it some more time. It is just fusterating for me as I have been working on this since November and still nothing yet. But it was hard to get into a certain doc that does all the test where we live took 2 months.. UGHHH and I go back to one more for the IQ testing then I have taken all the test that is needed.
Mine just started me out with the small 5mg and increase so often for the month up to 20mg.
It will be very interesting to see what she says here on Tuesday when I go back and tell her I just dont notice anything..I wish I would but I just dont..will get it and it will take time.
Im just not a person to take meds for anything unless really a need for it and with my collge at my age and getting into the swing of things it is really hard. Dont be afraid to speak up and tell them it isnt working what can we do next?? My doc just likes to take things slow she says which that is ok with me but it is going on 4 months here and I just want to get to the right dose that will work when I need it.
I dont get to any point during the day for which some say they do better than evening or on that order. I am a night owl to begin with and a early riser also.. so for me to bed around 1 or 2am after all here is sound asleep and then back up around 6am..plenty of sleep for me..I have been one to always have lots of energy so for some when they say they feel like they can do so much guess I just dont notice this part either as Im always busy and on the go with family, kids, hubby and college..
Im just waiting for the point that when I read something I can and know what I read.
Good Luck and keep in touch.. will let ya know what my doc says on Tuesday here..
Just wanted to let you know I went through the exact same pattern. Made it through high school and bachelor's just fine, but when I hit graduate school- bomb! I did great in the classes, but couldnt do research, put my thesis together, or do anything that required synthesizing large amounts of material. Totally fogged out. Also, I couldnt stand sitting in the classes-fidget, fidget. Even got up and left a meeting once bc I just couldnt sit still.
Is it possible tho it is not ADHD, but perhaps Information Anxiety Overload, or perhaps feelings of depression.
There are many things that manifest as ADHD, and although I have been diagnosed myself, I dont take the meds. I do however go on Anti-Depressants periodically which help a lot.
I do not however have to hold down a job, I am a stay at home Mum. So I guess I can have that luxury.
But weigh it all up for yourself, research different possibilities. And judge for yourself. I dont think Dr's are right all the time, and if the meds are not working in about a month - to 2 months, then I would consider the fact that they may not work for you.
I wish you luck.
Hi there I'm 21 and in the same boat. I have a very high IQ but was inable to focus it and it got so frustrating! I thought I'd go mad with boredom in lectures and tutes, like you said was always moving in my seat and getting distracted.
Firstly talk to the disabilities people. Very important that you do this asap because they can start to help you right away. There's note takers in lectures, electronic resources and never underestimate the trusty headphones to tune out to noise around you. Earplugs can also work. I'm looking in to taking headphones into my lectures to play quiet background music so I can concentrate better.
Secondly, it sounds contrived but once you find the right medicine there is a big improvement. I have been on Ritalin for a week and am much calmer and can focus longer.
Finally make sure you have a good support system of friends, family and proffesionals. Sometimes you will feel quite isolated and will need people to talk to about your condition.
I wish you all the best with your studies, I am going back for my final year down here in Australia, if you would like to email me it's ROCKSTATIC@hotmail.com
I just want to thank you all for the helpfull advise. I dont think that 10 mg is working of the adderal xr so i took 15 mg today ( break apart one of the 10 mg capsuls and halfed it). I feel a little better but as i am typing this post i should be studying. I just cant stay focused for a long time. I have delt with this for so long i dont know how i am supposed to feel.
