Congrats on your pregnancy! i just had a baby myself four months ago and did not take any meds. I am Bipolar type 2 and was taking Depakote. I did not start taking ADD med until last month for the first time in my life but my medicaid cut me and I am trying to find other ways to get some Concerta. I was told my hubby makes too much money, but I can't get on his plan until Oct.! I didn't even get a chance to find my therapeutic dose. After I had my baby I breastfed her as long as I could pumping and dumping Strattera, which didn't work for me anyway. I was forced to wean my baby to start Concerta. My doc would not give it until I weaned the baby. I am surprised you can take your med while pregnant. I am happy for you cause it's hard to function pregnant without being ADHD. Good luck and keep us posted.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!

I just found this board too and I LOVE IT!!

You can still take Ritalin when you are pregnant? We are contemplating TTC #3 but I am so scared to be off my Dexedrine. I just started it in August and it has totally turned my life around. I thought (not that I was told, I just assumed) that you couldn't take stimulants when pg?

Anyways, it will be great getting to know you! Keep us posted on your pg!

  Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and I am so glad I have found it...  As most of you (if not all) of you  know it is hard to find other people who understand what we are going through..  Anyway I have twin girls who are 8 years old and have ADHD as well...  I am also ADHD.  LOL...  So you can imagine what my house and life is like..  I myself am on ritilan but my kids are not taking anything for theirs....  I have also found out that I am pregnant ...  HELP..  I am happy about it but was also concerned that I would have to stop taking my meds...  Boy was I happy when I was told by my doctor that there was no reason to stop taking them...  Anyway I will stop rambling and go back to my very calm life...  LOL..

I am glad I found this place and I am sure you will hear from me soon...

Caroline...

I am currently on Ritalin and my husband and I want to get pregnant but I am scared because my job requires focus and attention to detail (which is how I was diagnosed w/ ADD, my job was suffering).  I dont want to harm the baby by taking the medication but I dont want to jeopordize my job either.

The stuff I read on Ritalin is not comforting enough for me to take it while I am pregnant.  Has anyone else been in this situation.  Thanks.

I'm not sure the meds are a good idea while pregnant. The brain quakes ritalin gave me were scary. I don't the doctor knows exactly how a brain quake would affect a fetus. He merely stated that he knew of no *specific* reason not to take them. Don't be the lesson everyone looks to when they find out that ritalin can harm a fetus.bump
How can you risk your child's brain for better job performance?!?!
Seriously, children deserve better than that.

If there are effects, it will be all your fault. Play Roulette with your own self.

PrincessC, as you can tell we are all strongly opinionated.  I can say that as long as you work closely with your doctor to follow the developement of the fetus it may not do harm.  I take Adderall XR and continued to do so in a much lowered dose through out my pregnancy, for the same reason you are contemplating.

I too had a job that requires a lot of focus and attention to detail and the thought of being on my job w/out meds was enough to cause anxiety attacks.  At that time I also needed my job.  My fiance had been "let go" due to cut backs due to 9/11 and I was the sole provider for our family.  I also was the only one with benefits--benefits that we needed because I was pregnant.

I know many of you may disagree with what I did and what PrincessC is considering, but I had my reasons.  I was smart about it, I educated myself, I watched my health and worked closely with my doctor--and I had a perfectly healthy 7lb 14oz daughter that was 21''long.  She is now 2 1/2 y/o and healthy and ornery as can be.

Congratulations dvirgo. Big smile
