Congratulations on your pregnancy!!
I just found this board too and I LOVE IT!!
You can still take Ritalin when you are pregnant? We are contemplating TTC #3 but I am so scared to be off my Dexedrine. I just started it in August and it has totally turned my life around. I thought (not that I was told, I just assumed) that you couldn't take stimulants when pg?
Anyways, it will be great getting to know you! Keep us posted on your pg!
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and I am so glad I have found it... As most of you (if not all) of you know it is hard to find other people who understand what we are going through.. Anyway I have twin girls who are 8 years old and have ADHD as well... I am also ADHD. LOL... So you can imagine what my house and life is like.. I myself am on ritilan but my kids are not taking anything for theirs.... I have also found out that I am pregnant ... HELP.. I am happy about it but was also concerned that I would have to stop taking my meds... Boy was I happy when I was told by my doctor that there was no reason to stop taking them... Anyway I will stop rambling and go back to my very calm life... LOL..
I am glad I found this place and I am sure you will hear from me soon...
Caroline...
I am currently on Ritalin and my husband and I want to get pregnant but I am scared because my job requires focus and attention to detail (which is how I was diagnosed w/ ADD, my job was suffering). I dont want to harm the baby by taking the medication but I dont want to jeopordize my job either.
The stuff I read on Ritalin is not comforting enough for me to take it while I am pregnant. Has anyone else been in this situation. Thanks.
I'm not sure the meds are a good idea while pregnant. The brain quakes ritalin gave me were scary. I don't the doctor knows exactly how a brain quake would affect a fetus. He merely stated that he knew of no *specific* reason not to take them. Don't be the lesson everyone looks to when they find out that ritalin can harm a fetus.bumpPrincessC, as you can tell we are all strongly opinionated. I can say that as long as you work closely with your doctor to follow the developement of the fetus it may not do harm. I take Adderall XR and continued to do so in a much lowered dose through out my pregnancy, for the same reason you are contemplating.
I too had a job that requires a lot of focus and attention to detail and the thought of being on my job w/out meds was enough to cause anxiety attacks. At that time I also needed my job. My fiance had been "let go" due to cut backs due to 9/11 and I was the sole provider for our family. I also was the only one with benefits--benefits that we needed because I was pregnant.
I know many of you may disagree with what I did and what PrincessC is considering, but I had my reasons. I was smart about it, I educated myself, I watched my health and worked closely with my doctor--and I had a perfectly healthy 7lb 14oz daughter that was 21''long. She is now 2 1/2 y/o and healthy and ornery as can be.
