Im 35 years old.Was on strattera, but my dr thinks oits not doing a thing for me,so she had me stop it. She put me on Adderall..for the 1st 3 days- 5mg, the next 3 days- 10mg, then 15mg, 20mg.and so on..
How do I know if this medication is working? Ive been "reorganizing" my closets over here, then find something else that distracts me..I have like 3 or 4 projects going on at once.I DO complete them..but its making me hyper,I think..or more motivated?? I dont know. I am accomplishing alot around the house.
Also, she warned of a "crash"...how long does this medicine work for..so i can expect the "crashes"?? any info is appreciated. thanx.
Did you organize and clean before? Becuase normally, if you don't have ADD/ADHD, and you take a stimulant, it causes you to do what you described you are doing? So I think the medication, is working. Are you diagnosed with ADHD?Like someone else said if you hadnt cleaned and organized before then it must be working for you.
I am 44 and just got diagnosed for mild ADHD for reading, comprehension, focusing, figiting, and concentrating. She put me on Concerta for 30 days 36mg and did absolutley nothing so I threw them down the toliet. The she put me on Adreall XR just the same she started me out like your doc did, small doses up to 20mg and did nothing for me either..Today I went back and told her I felt nothing at all and according to others that have been on any of these meds you will notice it is working when you find the right one and the right dose for your system..
Today now she started me on Foclain so will try that tommorow morning and for 1 week and see if I notice anything..
Good luck!
Hi Luv2farmnd.
I am not familiar at all with "foclain". Do you know anything about it? Is it a new med for ADD? Just wondering. I guess I oughta' look it up...LOL
I am not referring to anyone in particular, so I certainly am not trying to cast any unfavorable shadow on any of us ...but are there any of you that have noticed a marked change in the severity of the "ADD" as they have gotten older and started experiencing hormonal shifts? I can not obviously, declare that that exacerbates the ADD, but it has for me. It is odd to have ADD all of your life, but it not become a problem or noticable concern until middle age...wonder if there is a correlation....
I spoke to my dr today and she said that I hgave to learn to reign in my energy.
Yes, I was diagnosed w/ adhd many years ago, but this is my first time on a stimulant.
I used to organize and clean but nothing compared to what happened today..I was like huper-focused..if there is such a thing.
Thanx to both of u for ur input!
rainct
It is a med for ADHD. Last 2-4 hours so the only draw back is my doc said I would have to take it more often when I need to like every 3 hours so I dont get a down fall to it.. She said you should notice something with in 15 minutes so will see what Thursday brings with it. Just have to see if we can find the right dose in this here for me and if this will work..Side effects are more like everything else but ya just never know as everyone is soo different.
I think I have had ADHD all my life when growing up but back then it was not a big issue or deal. With me taking some college classes this is where I noticed big time that I just cant follow along, it seems like I have panic attacks before a quiz or test... will see..
I have had no hormonal shifts or anything like that. Im sure my time will come soon..
Hi Luv2farmnd. Thanks for your reply. I certainly hope the new med works well for you. I asked the homonal question because, I generally did very well in school in my younger days. I suppose I was distracted then too, but did alright, since one of the things I was focusing on was the the material itself. Now, my memory is not as sharp...and the ADD seems much more noticeable.HAHAHAH! Sorry. That sort of happened to me too. It doesn't mean you don't have ADD though. Sometimes, you can more things on the medication because you can focus better. Adderall calmes me down, but because I don't waist as much energy trying to focus, I have more to spend on other projects. And, I do get distracted here and there still. I do, however, think that the increase in medication strenght is happening too abruptly. Increase the dosage too fast and your body will develop an inmunity to it as at much faster rate. Also, look at the possibilty of taking herbal supplements to enhance memory and adjusting your diet to get the max benefit to meet your brain nutitional needs and improve its performance. Also, excersice your brain. Practice puzzles, read, etc. Brain cells die if they are not used. Controlling ADD realted synthoms, requires that you make positive changes to your life style. Relying on medication alone leads to path of disaster.thanx for explaining it to me..and for the tips abotu excercising my barin.,.guess its just a matrter of getting used to this/I was awake until midnight last night/I wonder what i'll clean today..lol
Yeah hi I'm new here.AGAIN TODAY..iM FLYING ALL OVER THE PLACE..ACCOMPLISHING ALOT..BUT i MUST LEARN NOT TO DO THIS EVERYDAY.oN MONDAY i WILL BE STARTING A NEW JOB AND MY SHIFT IS 3P-11PM.
whoops..caps..sorry about that
I have to say "ok, after this project,I go eat, then take a shower."
Because otherwise,Id find yet another thing needed to get done.who know I was so damn lazy before.lol
rainct38386.504375I have been on Adderall for a few months now and was started at 5mg. Day one was AWESOME! I did feel the euphoria and got insane amounts of stuff done. It settled down a bit. My doctor upped me to 7.5mg after the first month. I was able to get a 90-day supply, and have taken an extra here and there. Finally, he let me go to 10mg. The crash hits fast sometimes, but I try to schedule my day to allow for it. I have had ADHD since day one, but was misdiagnosed almost 30 years ago with anxiety (as many females get this diagnosis). Back in the day, us girls that were not hyperactive were labeled daydreamers and lazy. So, I was finally diagnosed at 34 after thinking I was properly being treated for anxiety. Now, my son is 7 and diagnosed. He has been on Metadate CD for 2 months and doing quite well for the most part. The problem is, he is gifted. I need to find a balance between his gifted needs and his ADHD needs.
Btw, it is so great to finally read about people who think just like me. The relationship thing sucks, since we annoy some people. Can anyone understand us? Or are we aliens that never shut up?
Ivil Ivette,
Thanks for the sleep tip with Adderall. I never sleep like I should since I have upped my dosage. I notice a little emotional junk with it. also, my son's pediatrician mentioned bad moodiness if the dose is too low.
HAHAHA! I know how you feel. When I first started taking it, I set on a quest to organize everything in the house. There is boxes every where now! I turned my house into a mini-wherehouse. lol I just felt like I could finally had the concentration to actually "start" and "finish" my projects. The medication made me feel like a child with a new toy.
But, you weren't lazy before. That is what most people think of us, but we are not. I don't know if you fell the same way I do, but I personally can not handle pressure. We have so many thoughts running through our minds. Really, concentratrating on things that we don't consider important or just plain concentration on one thought at a time can really take a told on our bodies. We also have to deal with constant feelings of deppression and guilt because we don't do or finish things. Make sure that you eat, even if you are not hungry. Buy drinks like Ensure and GreenMachine, so you can zip them through the day. And sleep. Adderall can have a strong depressant effect if you don't take care of your body. And, believe me, this is not a feeling you want to experience at all.
Stay cool! take time intervals during your day to mediate, breath deeply, and focus on relaxation. Remember, we can control what effect the medication has on our mood.
Bye... lol
Ivil Ivette,
thanks for writing and for giving me tips.
I really agree with what you wrote "concentratrating on things that we don't consider important or just plain concentration on one thought at a time can really take a told on our bodies."
Its so true. Its so nice to not feel alone anymore.
Off to rearrange my kitchen cabinets.....

Hey Shinsetu_hito!
If you want an XR to hit you harder, faster drink OJ with it!. You will "crash" shortly there after, but you definitely will feel the effect of the drug in a more pronounced manner. This is not something I am recommending. Also if you drink OJ at night- it reactivates whatever is in your system and you stay awake all night. I mean you can lie there and try to sleep, but it is difficult, and certainly not a good sleep, which is why it is also not a good thing to do. I have been told that what it does is it kills the drugs ability to be a sustained released medication. Odd though...it really will keep you awake all night!![]()
