Milk on top of the frige | ADHD Information

Share

One of my ADHD "things" was putting the milk on top of the refrigerator and  the cereal inside. It actually used to make me laugh a little.  I am taking Adderall. I took a brake from it. And, no kidding! that next week I broke the  printer at work (and blamed it on the sticky paper), made 500 extra copies (that my boss found hiding under my desk the next day), overflowed the coffee maker (ran away before they knew it was me), missed a day of work and stayed home to sleep (because I felt guilty about the printer, the copies, and the coffee), got frustrated with the hole puncher and left confeti all over the floor of the conference room, try to pick it up and left  a confeti trail all the way to the kitchen, erased the clients' database (and blamed it on the program), and finally on Friday, threw a huge fit and snaped at my boss when he tried to tell me to come down. He said, The poor man never had a chance. I resigned before being fired.

Really, this my normal me without adderall. I have had at least 20 jobs. I am 27 and still a sophmore in college. What I am going to do? I can't take it forever.

I think the ideal job for me is teaching. I have two daughters with ADHD. Just last night, my 6-year old, broke down crying because she is supposed to be learning coin values, but could not get herself to memorize them. "I can't mommy!" she said with tears in her eyes, and then jumpled into my arms. Finally, using a technique that I thought would work for me. She did it! Yet, everytime I try to talk to her teachers and principal about this, the push me aside: "oh no!,  not Brenda.... she is ok, she is doing great!" Eventhough, she hasn't turned any homework for over a month.

There so much people will never be understand about ADHD. I think helping other children with ADHD will really give my life a purpose.

How about (for example) when you have a headache?  You decide to take a couple of aspirin - an hour later the headache is still there... you can remember taking the apirin.. or can you?  You know you drank the water, but thinking about it, you've no memory of taking the tablets.

You search around by the sink where you poured your glass of water to see if there are any aspirin laying around, and if there aren't you look at the packet to see how many are missing.  That's no good though, because you've no idea how many were in there before...

Do you take some more?  Or put up with the headache?  (If you decide to take some more, repeat from step one).

Am I the only one who does this?

Dear Ivil Ivette,

You will have to keep taking the adderall for the rest of your life ...or something like it...that is just the facts...believe me...36 and still taking adderall...

I FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME AS YOU. I WAS FIRED FROM MY JOB AS I KEPT MAKING LOADS OF SILLY MISTAKES, THE`HARDER I TRIED THE MORE I WOULD WORRY AND MAKE MORE. I HAVE WORKED IN SHOPS BEFORE AND GOT FIRED BECAUSE I HAVE GIVEN CUSTOMERS THE WRONG CHANGE AS WELL. NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRIED I COULD NOT CONCENTRATE.AT THIS TIME I DID NOT KNOW I HAD ADHD AND AS A RESULT I FELT ASHAMED FIR BEING SACKED NUMEROUS TIMES. I HAVE KNOW REALISED THAT CLERICAL WORK IS NOT FOR ME. I AM GOING TO TRAIN TO BECOME A BEAUTY THERAPIST A JOB THAT IS PRACTICAL AND NOT BASED IN AN OFFICE. I AM SO PLEASED THAT SOMEONE FEELS THE SAME. ANYONE ELSE HAVE SIMILAR STORIES?

I do understand.  My last job had one very tedious, boring task that no matter how hard I tried, I ALWAYS made gobs of mistakes doing it.

Other things were easy, but this particular thing was what made me doubt my sanity at times.

I was a keys in the lock of my front doot,  milk in the Freezer,   dish soap in the fridge,  and Ice  melted  in a cabinet, wallet not to be found or in the washing machine kinda guy before medication.SO WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD BE AN IDEAL JOB FOR SOME ONE WITH ADHD THAT MAKES ALOT OF SILLY MISTAKES IN CLERICAL WORK?

I don't know if I have the answer for this.  My job/vocation is a science that also requires a lot of creativity and thinking outside of the box.  I excell at those things.  But I had this stupid Department Manager job where in addition to the stuff I was good it,  I was supposed to crunch numbers and stats, then hand them in at the end of the month.

The report was ALWAYS wrong to the point my boss was literally looking at me like I was wackaloon.

I have a different job now that is much less stressful and has way fewer numbers for me to deal with.

Dunno.  I've been looking for that job for 30 years, and tried over 40 so far.

It's a good job I'm such a happy chap, or I'd be a bit worried by now..

I've had countless moments of finding myself standing with the cupboard door open, wondering, "why am I here?? Oh yeah, milk", which of course, is in the fridge, not the cupboard.

Ivil_Ivette, I am 26 and have had a total of 12 jobs. My current job has lasted 3 years, which means that from the time i was 18 til I was 23, I had 11 different jobs. Not counting the 3 jobs I had in my 3 years of university, I had 8 jobs between the ages of 20 and 23.

The only reason I've lasted at my current job so long is through sheer, utter determination to not be a job-hopper for the rest of my life. We CAN make oursleves stick to a loathsome job, but wow.... is that really any way to live? The only reason I haven't been sacked is because no one notices that I only spend about an hour a day doing any real work. I sit at my computer and look busy (surfing the net *blush*), and I still manage to get my other work done because I hyper-focus and do it in record time. Yet I have NO motivation to ask for more work. NONE.

If anyone does find that perfect job, please let me know.
