punishment: the ultimate & only motivator

help!

if there are not dire consequences of not doing something i
don't want to do i won't do it.

how else can i get motivated?ritalin did WONDERS  for me. i was the same way.  I have been much better  at doing the life tasks  i avoided till they caused more pain not doing them than doing them.  It's  made it so a lot of  the tasks of life like writing the mortgage check  out  don't seem to be horrible jobs  I have to put off  till I get calls. The Dishes dont have to smell to get washed....wow, what a concept.i'm trying to start ritalin but it makes my stomach turn. did this
happen to you?

velvet it is a pretty pathetic feeling isnt it - I am like that a lot also.  Could linger away my life doing what i want to to do and leave my have to's in the have to pile for later LOL.

When you find the answer to this one - Share - I have a similar prob.  But luckily my hubby MAKES me get off my butt.

I read  Rotalin  "seems" to  have more of a motivational effect  than a lot of other ADHD  drugs.  I  have been  mostly doing all the crap I always put off...mostly

Ritalin does not bother my stomach. It is a pain to get  though. Pharmacies in my area  run out a lot I was told when I went with a scrip and was told  4 days. I think  newer  drugs are prescribed a lot more nowadays....for me  it's working great so why take  something stronger  or longer acting. I don't mind taking it 3 times a day  and  when I go to bed  I fall asleep  since it flushes from my system so fast. When

rae, you are lucky at least you have a whipcracker

i avoid my mom - she used to do it incessantly!

although i must say, after starting the ritalin the motivation is
getting better. i actually felt like working out today for the first
time in 2 years

and maybe my laundry will get done - i can't keep wearing
different color socksThere's really only two ways to become motivated: Fear and Reward.  Get yourself to focus on the reward instead of the fear.  Look for things you are interested in, and your mind will spontaniously kick into gear.  The difference between and optimist and pessimist is the optimist focuses on reward instead of punishment.  Practice training your mind to be aware of the reward.  The right medication should help.

I guess there are different types of motivators.  I'm putting off doing something right now - but, I know I'll get it done today when I have just enough time.  Time pressure is a motivator - as long as it's something doable but challenging.

positive regard is also a powerful motivator.  i know that i'll feel better about myself and others will be glad when i get this thing done and - combined with the knowledge that i can do it - is a motivator.
