Difficulty getting up in the morning? | ADHD Information

I have always had difficulty getting up in the morning for as long as I can remember. I wish there was a law for us not to have to rise before 10am!Yes I am not human until my mum or friend throws me in the shower. I whinge and be a general drama queen. But once I am up I am fine!LOL I hate getting up in the morning. I don't have enough sense to live and just feel it is almost criminal to have to get up before 9am or so. If, I am forced to get up early though for a few days in a row, then my body/brain  will get used to it and I am brighter and more alert ay 6am than I am usually at  9am. I do this about once every 3 mos, I have to be at work at 8:30, normally its 12:30p. Weird, huh? On the other hand by 2 in the afternoon I am starting to drag on those early mornings, and by 5 I am ready to call it a day. On the later mornings I am good till 2am or so...I read an article the other day that said 91% of adults with ADD have a hard time getting up in the morning.

Just wondering if anyone else here feels it should be illegal to expect a person to get up before the sun does. Or, well, anytime before 9:00 for that matter.

oh yeah, I agree.  I used to use multiple alarm clocks, and even that didn't work sometimes.  I found though that having a child cured me of the problem

I have to agree, as much as I HATE getting up early, once I actually drag myself out of bed, I am glad I am up.

I too was horrible with work, I was always late. Not super late, but just enough to get in trouble all the time. I'm going back to work in April after being off with my kids for 2 years and that is going to be an experience and half. I'll have alarm clocks thoughout the entire house going off!
I also read somewhere that people with ADD actually sleep best between the hours of 4am and noon and that also our circadian rythyms are a little wacky.
That is sooo interesting. I've always said "I sleep best between about 4am and 10-ish". I always thought I was just screwed up! I could never understand how friends would wake to their alarm clocks and simply hop out of bed.

One of my closest friends gets up at 5am when she works a day shift. I keep telling her I could never do it - I'd be physically sick everyday. She ALWAYS says, "oh, you'd get used to it". NO I WOULDN'T!!!! She just doesn't understand.

I had a summer job once working continental shifts (2 days on, 2 days off, 2 NIGHTS on, 2 days off, 2 days on, etc....). I was SUCH a bitch that summer! And I felt like !

Firstly, I have never been a morning person.    I'm usually still asleep in my mind for about two hours after I get up.  Yet, I've always worked a regular 8-5 job, that has become more difficult as I've gotten older.  Actually, I'm nocturnal by nature.  I come alive at dusk when the sun finally sets.  The night is my daytime.  For as long as I can remember this is the way I am.  I don't know if it has anything to do with ADHD or not.

I posted a poll in late Jan on here and most of the ADHDrs voted that they have trouble getting up....look at it I think it is still there....

anyway I hate getting up in the morning...I oversleep and when I worked I was allways late for my job...late to school...late to appts if they are in the morning...I also like to stay up late...but I have to get up early to take my daughter to school so I have to go to bed by 12....I get up take her to school and then come home and go back to bed......for a bit

Look the poll about getting up in the morning is now on the same page as this topic..........everyone vote and lets see...I do believe that it is this way for most adhders.

Oh ya, getting up anytime before noon is insanity for me and now I don't have a choice because I have two kids

But I ALWAYS had a hard time getting up, no matter how early I went to bed or how much sleep I got.

I also read somewhere that people with ADD actually sleep best between the hours of 4am and noon and that also our circadian rythyms are a little wacky.

I know for me that is totally true, I hit my deepest sleep at around 4 am.

When I had to get up for work or whatever, I always had a difficult time. Then when I wasn't working, I would automatically get up early, and I mean early, like 5:30. I didn't mind. But now that I need to take my meds early so they last the 12 hrs and I hopefully will sleep at night, I have to set my alarm. Even setting it for 9 am, I don't want to get up. I think it's more psychological. I used to like getting up early, I felt it's a waste of time to sleep "late." Of course, when I'm up til 4 am, then I hope to sleep in until I have enough sleep. This is getting confusing.
