my 8 year old tried straterra over a year ago and he was falling asleep in class. We put him on the lowest dose and still the same results. He also had stomach aches. He is currently on Concerta 18mg and he still tells me his stomach hurts. Has anyone else had these side effects?.

[/QUOTE] My sons strattera is being changed to 18 mg morning and 18 mg at night pray it works. The 25mg seems ony effective for school time.Behavior is the biggest struggle now.Strattera need taken on ful stomaches only. This works on preventing upset stomaches. Our sons eat all the time on Strattera.daniel's mom38435.8074768518Strattera and sleepiness not in class though. Maybe to much. Should be done by weight. He isn't doing it any more. He eats a snack after school.Take on full stomach only.Takes 6-8 weeks see full effects. Dr, should start low then up it.My son is 8. 10mg week 1, 2 - 10mg, week 2, week 3 -25mg doing well.RSHN38401.6377893519My 5 year old son was on Strattera 18 mg. and was very sleepy and had stomache aches every day, too. Even though 18 mg. made him sleepy all the time and upset his stomache, the psy. increased the meds to 25 mg. because that's the suggested dose for his weight. Twenty-five mgs. was too much meds and made him completely zoned out, and he was telling me all the time that he didn't feel well/upset stomache. So, we backed him down to 10 mg., and it had NO affect on him at all. NONE!! It was the worst 2 weeks of my life as a mother, and I'm sure the worst 2 weeks of his life too. The poor thing was constantly in trouble. He couldn't control himself. He was incredibly impulsive--cutting things up, "roaming" again, deciding to overfeed his fish (it died). But the worst part of those two weeks was that he could NOT listen, focus, concentrate or follow through on anything. It hurts so much to see him so out of control and not able to focus enough to even hear us. It really was the worst 2 weeks ever! I pleaded with the dr. to change the meds, but she is a die-hard Strattera advocate. So, she said that his ideal dose should be around 15 mg. HOWEVER, they don't make a 15 mg., and so she has us giving him 20 mg. of it one day and 10 mg. the next, and then repeating that. So far, this dose is working beautifully. We still have a good bit of trouble with his attentiveness, but the wild impulsivity and hyperactiveness that we saw when he was on 10 mg. is GONE, completely!! He is still really loud and obnoxious at times, but I guess that's just him. (His dad is a loud talker, too...and obnoxious. They're both 200 percent personality.)
HOWEVER, even though the Strattera is working now...NOTHING worked as well as the Adderall. Since he did so well on Adderall, I wanted the dr. to put my son back on it and not fiddle around with the dose on the Strattera anymore. But, she wants him to be constantly the same and not rebounding or experiencing wear off. I would LOVE for the Strattera to work as well as the Adderall did; if this dose doesn't work I'm going to insist on putting him back on it. Have you tried Adderall? My son had no side effects at all on it.

Momof2inSC38428.4135300926the stomach aches are probably from the fact that his desire to eat is gone, but not his body's desire to take in food. i get twinges of hunger when i'm on meds but my mind is like, "ew... food." your brain is just... disgusted by the thought of eating. but you can still feel the fact that your stomach is hungry. yes, so the stomach thing is probably normalI am on straterrs 80 mg,day, and I get very sleepy, I cant take it at night cause I cant sleep.Hi there-
We are just starting on Strattera (after trying Ritalin SR and Adderall XR....both caused too much moodiness/depression in my 5 year old DD).
My product info says not to open the capsules and sprinkle on food, as we were doing with the others. Any ideas of how to get the capsules swallowed?
Thanks -
