This is the 2nd week of 27 mgs of Concerta for my 8 year old daughter. She can't seem to stop crying. The first 3 days of the first week she took it was great. On Thursday she started to fall apart. On Friday she was a mess. I don't give it to her over the weekends. MOnday, Tuesday, today, terrible. She got hysterical over just about anything.
Has anyone had their child experience this? If it's a side effect will it mellow out? The doctor wants her to try this for a month. I don't know if I can make it a month if this is what it is going to be like.

My 7 yr old son is on concerta 18 mg. We're on day 7. By the 3rd day (Monday) he started to even out some and was doing great in school but the last two days in school have been worst than before the meds. He's been better in the evenings than I stated in previous posts.
I'm sure the dr. is going to suggest increasing the dosage and after reading your story I'm concerned it may make things worse in the long run. I feel the same way you do; don't know if you can make it a month.... It's like they turn in to Jekyl and Hyde or are possessed at times. Very scary.
I just bought a book by Dr. Lawlis, The ADD Answer. Only about 1/2 way through it but it seems to have a lot of great alternatives to try for ADD/ADHD children and he touches on the some of the side affects of the meds. I've spent hours trying to better understand ADD/ADHD.
Was your daughter on meds prior to Concerta? Does she just start crying over nothing? My son says he feels angry a lot.
My son was on Concerta for allmost 2 years,he is 11 now.The mood swings, crying fits were present the entire time.I recently took him off concerta because he did not grow for over 1 year.He has grown 2,5 inches in the last 4 weeks,no more crying fits and a lot less arumentive.

yes my kids have this side effect but only during the adjustment period (first 2 weeks) My daughter was also having major mood swings when she was off the drug for the weekends. She would start having fits around midday Sunday and Monday (back on the drugs) was sometimes a bad day also. We usually give her the meds 7 days per week now and she is very even tempered. My son is able to have weekends off with no mood swings.
BUT YES- TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION- CRYING JAGS (OVER THE STRANGEST THINGS) IS AN EFFECT I HAVE NOTICED BUT IN MY (KID'S) CASE, LUCKILY IT SUBSIDED.
