Team Players | ADHD Information
OK, next on the list of recent comments directed towards me.
Has anyone else here been told they aren't a team player?
Or that you don't work well with others?
Again, I don't fit in with groups, and I really have a hard time working as part of a team.
Anyone else?

Yep. I can relate to that.
A few months back our new office manager decided we should have a 'Team Build' day at some sports centre or something. I told him "I don't do teams", and refused to go.
I'm not very good at the social stuff, and these days I find it easier not to try. Let them think I'm a miserable old dog, I don't care anymore.
Mark Goode38393.3986226852One of the comments on my report cards in grade school was "doesn't work well in groups".Whenever I had a group project in high school or university, I hated every second of it. I either tried to take complete control, or just completely withdrew and didn't participate at all.
Whenever my company goes on a "teamwork pep talk", I internally roll my eyes and then go back to my quiet little cubicle and continue to keep to myself.
So... team player? Absolutely not!!! I think it has to do with the ADHD-er's innate hatred for authority - we hate being told what to do, and hate even more being told how and when. OUR way is the ONLY way, dammit!
Only because I am a crappy team player... groups move slow, make decisons slowly and, waste time...... I normally end up alpha and leading if no one else does
BOBEL, I am similar. I have done nothing but team activities my whole life (sports, boy scouts, fraterity, etc...) I end up having to take control because "it won't get done right" with someone else leading. I am seriously obsessive compulsive if I know other people aren't as smart and/or creative as myself (not trying to be arrogant). This usually tends to add more stress in my life, and the snowball effect forms.

I feel SO much better! I have never, ever fit in to any 'group' and I sucked at team stuff (either taking over or withdrawing).

Hi Esther! When I had a job I worked at this one firm and after we finished a big job the partners wanted the "team" to go on a fun day....it consisted of going to one of those places with the paddle boats, putt putt etc...well I was the only one on the ground when everyone go into those stupid boats...I don't know why, but I did not want to get into a stupid boat and paddle around in a kiddie sized pool with dirty water....needless to say I earned the title that day...but they called me that way before...I think it is because I refuse to conform to stupidity and be the "yes" man everyone and kiss a_ _ person everyone else is....It goes against my grain to have to conform to something I don't agree with...ADHDers just have the gutts to stand up and be individual! Hang in there!
