My son was technically diagnosed last year by his physician, but my husband didnt want to put him on meds, so we went the the school for a second opinion from the school psycholigist. well because of his teacher's uninvolvment, we could never get a diagnosis. so, now hes in the 1st grade and his teacher was really concerned so she went to the pshycologist herself and i also made and appointment with his doctor.
so, he was diagnosed two days ago and started concerta yesterday.
my mom takes him to school in the morning and picks him up afterwards. she said that he was great yesterday. listened after only being told once and did his homework without the usual hassle.
my concern is what i read on this site. i see people saying that concerta and other meds caused their kids to suddenly break into fits of rage and become unhappy kids.
my son is the happiest, friendliest and most caring little boy and i cant imagine him turning into anything else.
my question is, did the fits of rage and depression occur in your children at all before starting them on the meds? and if not, then why continue with them?
im just trying to prepare myself for whats to come.
It entirely depends on the child..it sounds like your child is not pre-disposed to that behavior..so I would be surprised if that happened. What probelms was he having in school? My child was having fits before medication and the fits are less but he still has occassional ones with the medication. Some medications can cause fits but not all in my opinion. In my opinion the fits are because kids with ADHD are having a hard time expressing themselves and it is not the medication but that is just my opinion.
