High protein ideas: go to local health store should have bars. Protein mix (Vanilla) with icecream or favorite fruit and mix falavored water. My kids love these.Nuts, meat, chicken, cheese, fish all protein. Your meals should be high Protein, no starches (dinner only) helps us sleep better also. rshn RSHN38394.3741782407There are a number of protein powder drinks that come in three flavors. Strawberry, chocolate, and or vanilla. You can purchase them in the grocery stores, walmarts, and or pharamacies. Read up on the Atkins diet. Now don't be confused I am not advising you to put him on the Atkins diet. But they do have a lot of different products that are high in protein. This is important because muscle weighs more the fat. So if you put your child on a high protein diet he will not lose much muscle mass. There are also various protein bars that you can purchase. Atkins has the cheapest. However, these products are expensive. You can make cupcakes, pancakes, cookies, oatmeal, and place a scoop or two of protein poweder. On average there is 21 grams of protein in one serving of protein. This is equivalent to 4 hot dogs, 3 and half eggs, or two-three hamburger patties. Now there is something called the Feingold diet. I haven't tried. Mostly because I am never hungry. I take three protein shakes a day. Morning, Lunch, and Dinner. However, the dinner I have to force because I am usually not hungry. I have been losing weight and I do make myself eat solid foods. Mostly in the morning at dinner. Morning isn't too tough because I have just taken my meds. I never eat lunch and I have to force myself to eat dinner. I like to keep in shape and have always played sports. I am toned and in shape but I am afraid that I may lose muscle mass and end up way too skinny. Imagine that. I always wanted to lose weight and now I am afraid of losing too much.
Here is a link to the Feingold Diet. It has been featured on many news shows suchs as 20/20 and dateline.

Hi everyone! I'm also new to the board. This question aplies directly to my profession. I am a nutrition and exercise counselor. For your son not only is it important for adequate protein intake, but also cabohydrates. If he is not getting enough of both he will be taking in less calories then he is expending, which causes weight loss. So look for shakes with both nutrients. Carbs should be around 60%, Protein and Fat 20% of his diet.Vitamin World great health store and not expensive either.rshnCCCallan,
Vitamin World and GNC (VW is cheaper) both have
something called Muscle Milk. It's whey protein
contains less cholesterol than other wheys. It also
contains healthy fats and other essential and
nonessential nutrients.
The "cookies and creme" version is very, very
delicious, even in water in lieu of milk. My 8-year-old
son has one every morning. He loves the stuff.
