ADD Meds and Heart Meds | ADHD Information

Welcome, Annie! You've come to the right place!

Yes, I have a suggestion....if you haven't already, talk with your doctor. Have you been put on an ADHD med? And, among the meds you mentioned, are any of those an antidepressant?

I'm 55 and have been taking Cozzar, Lipitor, 81mg aspirin at night, and Paxil for a couple years. I just started taking Concerta for ADHD...it's only been one week. However, my blood pressure seems okay. I see my doctor on March 2.

In my research, I've read that some high blood pressure meds can be a plus for helping with ADHD.

I'm assuming you've just been dx'd with ADHD, but have been living with it all your life. The depression usually is because we've lived undiagnosed for so long. As you know, it's not easy being ADHD.

I've lost or been forced to quit many a job during the past. So I sympathize.

So, I suggest talk with your doctor and/or pharmacist.

Hope this has been some help, Annie. Feel free to PM if you wish...or just hang in there, I'm sure there'll be plenty more replies to your post.

I have adult add and I am also on heart meds. Is there anyone else out that takes add meds along with heart meds (Plavix, metoperol, cozaar, lopressor, lipitor, zetia, and coated apirin -- I think I got them all correct). I am 51 years old and am at my wit's end in controlling my add symptoms. I was fired from my last job 7 months ago and have been job hunting without any success, so I'm also very depressed. I am eating non-stop and just cannot get myself out of this funk. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks, AnneD

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to speak with my dr at my next visit and see what he has to say. I have known I'm ADD for such a long time, but I must face the fact that I need some sort of meds for this, along with all my heart meds. I'm sooooo tired of feeling down.

I have VSD and just had surgery for AVNRT and my doctor refuses to put me on any kind of stimulant. I'm currently starting Strattera again.

My advice to you is consult your cardiologist, better yet have your psychiatrist talk to your cardiologist and have them work out a plan for you together.

That's what I did and it seems to be working out better.

yes, but  my problem is  electrical  in nature  not  the muscle.  I take tambacor  for Lone Afib. It works great. The Ritalin had no negative effects  and in fact  I have less palpatations because I stopped  coffee  when I started Ritalin.  Stratterra  because  arrythemias  are a side effect as well was ruled out because of the titration   period and the time it takes to flush from  they body. My heart muscle is fit as a fiddle it's just a wiring problem in my case.
