Adderall is a stimulant, and is not based on body weight/height. Two people weighing the exact same could need drastically different doses. Some people find that 5mg is all that they need, while others take significantly more. It is important that you take the lowest effective dose so that your body does not build a quick tolerance to the drug!!

I am 16 years old and way 160 lbs, i just started taking 30mg adderall xr and  it has made the biggest difference. when it first kicked in, i felt kind of weird and a little nautious, but then it was amazing. for the first time in my life i was able to think, i am a bright kid and i always test in the 94 or above percentile, but now i feel like my mind is open and not cloudy. i was wondering though, whether taking 30mg for my first dose was normal with my weight and age taken in to consideration.

I am really glad you feel so well on your medication. I am 39 years old, and I was recently diagnosed with ADHD. My Dr. started me on 20 mg of Adderall XR the first week, and then up to 40 mg. the second week. I to love my new found freedom, Freedom from my busy mind. I like the 40 mg. I have been reading alot about Adderall XR, and from what I understand, your dose seems normal. I read that teenagers need a higher dose of Adderall XR. Do you know when you will be increasing your dose?

Thanx, ive only taken the medicine one day so far, and im not sure when im upping the dose. I actually wasnt sure whether my dose right now was to much or not. at first i was a little out of breath, but i do have asthma and i was also a little nautious. i also did have a feeling of euphoria for about an hour or mabybe a little less, because i didnt really keep track of time. i did notice though that my dose only lasted me 7 hours, which isnt even enough to get me through school. let alone the 4 hours of homework i have to do.

If you notice it working then stick to it.

Im 44 and tried a few different types of meds now and nothing at all is working. I keep thinking how long will this take as have been working on it since Nov here and now it is already Feb.. just fusterating for me here..

Im attending college and I just have a hard time focusing, concentraing, my reading comprehension is terriable so this is what Im looking at it for.. To help me here with my testing and just to stay focused in the classroom.

The addreall XR that Im now on is 30 but that isnt anything. I tried 40 today and still nothing.... UGHHH  Then I have to ask myself how much is safe????

Any suggestions would be greatly appreaciated..

I have tried concerta, foclain for a week and was soo sick so I threw those down the toliet and meantime had lost 4 pounds not good in my book..

Will call my doc here Friday if no more changes to see what next can try. We have gotten to where I just try something for 1 to 2 weeks instead of wasting all the money on a months supply...

Weight doesnt matter when it comes to CNS Stimulants like adderall and ritalin. Your brain has the same chemical levels regardless of your weight -- these drugs are instantly and directly absorbed, and they're not fat-soluble (they're not stored in your body at all)
