Im new to the board. I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADHD and put on Ritalin LA (20 mg). Yesterday my dose was pushed up to 40mg. I am looking to speak with someone else who is taking this same medication, and can provide me with info on it. Any help would be great.
Thanks
My son has been on it for 2 weeks, almost 3. They pushed it up from 20mg to 30mg. He was okay for a while but in the evening, it was horrible. Around 5PM, he went into overdrive. He also feels "sick to his tummy" most of the day and today is his left eye is really bloodshot. He just got over a cold though and was coughing a lot. He sees the doc tomorrow so I will ask then about his eye. I think for us, the school was getting the main part of the med and by the dinner, it would be wearing off. Today was his 2nd day on the 30mg and he was so quiet. It was scary. I asked my husband if he thought he was "zombie-like" and he said "No, I think he is just finally acting normal". Good luck.
50mg is a high dosage. I found ritalin too harsh for my daughter. If you find your child is having a difficult time coming down from the ritalin you should ask your doctor to switch you to a different medication. There are several different medications to treat adhd, Concerta is one I have found to be have the least side effects. My 7 year old is on 50mg of Ritalin LA. He was on Metadate CD. He is diagnosed ADHD and GAD. He started acting out and it was like he was on water. So now he is on this dose of Ritalin and I was expecting him to be like a zombie. He is not. He is still getting into things at school and not concentrating. He has barely any appetite, but when he is not on it he eats pretty well. At about 5:30 or 6 he starts coming down and I just don't know this child. He is obnoxious, mean and won't listen. This kid used to be so sweet you just wanted to hug him all day. I am worried that he is on too much Ritalin. Is this a normal amount to take? I think the anxiety is making everything worse and I don't know how to get to the bottom of it.
