Ritalin La is 12 hours? I only heard of Concerta and Adderall being a 12 hours slow timed release pill. Is this a slow release? Does it work well? Tell me more? Please
Yes it is a 12 hr. It works well I take it and my 12 year old takes it. We haven't had any side effects, and we have been taking it for two months. We had both been on regular Ritalin. Adderall was working quite well for 14 yr. old son. Concerta didn't work well. Ritalin 20 mg. 3 times a day works well. My choices are pretty slim. We decided to use Dexedrine-long acting. He's on 15 mg. twice a day. Just started today so I guess I'll have to watch and see for a week, and hope I don't get calls from school
Any concerns about Dexedrine-good things, bad, whatever. Hopefully Adderall will come back on the market in Can. within the year. I wouldn't want to risk my son though if they do have concerns. Usually Canadians are slower to respond to things as opposed to the States. It kind of sucks though. My son not to happy having to go through the change again. Its rotten for him too. Thanks alot Tamaraw: I really appreciate it. I badly need a backup if this new med. doesn't work. I hope they have it here in Can. I really have never heard of it. Is your child severly ADHD. Just asking because I think it makes a difference what meds. certain children are on.I would say he is severely ADHD!
Here is a web site I found for Ritalin LA

Pardon my ignorance, how come adderall is banned in Canada?
My son seems to be doing really well, only the 6th day, but his concentration level has gone up through the roof and he's even albe to be tested and making the charts. It kind of concerns me that an entire country banns the drug????
Why was it banned, is a very good question. I can tell you my son last year was on it. Teacher said he was doing fine. 3 weeks into using it, he was hallucinating at night waking up saying he was afraid turning on all the lights, said he saw spiders, etc. It was like he was on acid or something. He also started to come down off it in the early evening and started flipping out in a state of agitation. Kicking the wall, yelling and cursing. It was a nightmare. One night he had a severe headache and was screamiing that his head hurt for a 1/2 hour straight. He was 6 years old. I called the Doctor. He immediately pulled him off the medicine.Taken off the market because there's been 15 deaths related to the medication. Stroke and heart related problems. My doctor said that likely these children had heart problems to begin with.

I found this link in another post on this board. It is an article about why the med Adderall was pulled in Canada.
I have read other articles that suggest if your child is on this med, they should be givven an EKG test to monitor his heart and make sure they are OK.
