Does medication cause depression? | ADHD Information

My 10 year old son has been extremely upset for the past 4 days.  It has been so bad that I had to pick him up from school early because the teacher said he would not stop crying.  What is so bad is that the things he is getting upset about is nothing to get upset about.  He has been on adderall for about 2 years and never had any side effects.  I usually don't give him any medication on the weekend.  I didn't give him any today because I thought maybe it was the medication.  Can anyone help me with this?

have u called his dr?

what is he saying is bothering him?

My son is crying some at school also. I believe it's the obnocios kids.He has started revenge. I don't care what the schools take on this is. What comes around goes a round. We have told him his real friends are going to except him for himself. All kids with a problem seem to get labeled trouble makers. What about the others. If things get any worse for our son we are homeschooling.Has someone threatened him? Our kids are different so they can be targets for bullies. He just says he is scared.  It sounds like he's paranoid.  I talked with his doctor and he says that its just a phase he's going through.  I know I had moments of being scared when I was his age but they didn't last long.  I haven't given him any adderall since Monday so I'm starting to wonder if its something other than his medication.

I would look into a 2nd opinion..when he says hes scared..have u questioned about what?  sounds like u need to dig deeper in talking to him.

Well its now Friday and he seems to be a lot better.  I guess its just a phase.  He did mention something about a boy that picked on him sometimes.  His doctor did say if its no better in one week, then he would see about a counselor.

Stimulants can increase over-sensitivity, which is almost always heightend in children with ADD to begin with.  He's being overwhelmed with stress and anxiety.  I remember going through the same thing as a kid like it was yesterday.  Zoloft changed my life as much as the stimulants.

I would seriously consider a small dose of SSRI, like Zoloft to increase Serotonin.  Serotonin increases security, self-confidence, deceases stress and anxiety, and reduces sensitivity.  Most children with ADD have low Serotonin, which is not being confronted with stimulants alone.  Stimulants mosty work on Norepinephrine and Dopamine.  Increasing two while leaving the other (serotonin), makes sensitivity, stress, irritablity, confidence, and security all worse.

My 11yr. old went through something similar. He was on Ritalin the Dr. took him off and 2 weeks later put him on strattera, he was crying everyday in school (and he is a child who would die if any of his peers saw him cry) It lasted 3 weeks. He was taken off that med and put back on Ritalin he is now back to normal.
