Risperdal | ADHD Information
My son is now on Concerta 36 mg a day in a.m. takes it. He still is having some problems in school, where he goes off if he can't concentrate or becomes agitated. Dr. put him on Risperdal 0.5 mg in a.m. and in p.m. He said that he thinks his moods are not adhd but an underlying mood disorder and Risperdal may take the edge off. Has anyone heard of this? Does it actually help.My son is 11 years old. He was diagnosed when he was 4 with adhd and odd(opitional defient disorder). He has been on several different meds, none seem to work. About a year ago the doctor put him on risperdal .25mg along with 100mg of strattera. It seems to be working as far as being able to concentrate at scool and do his work. But the bad side we have seen is the my son has gained over 40lbs since he has been on the med. And unfortunatly that is one of the side effects. My daughter who is 5 was also put on Risperdal for a mood disorder. It worked great but we also had the weight gain. She was switched to Abilify because it had a lower weight gain side effect ratio. It worked even better than the Risperdal but she gained weight on this too. We are now trying yet another, Geodon as it has an even smaller chance of weight gain but it has some other side effects possibilities that are not so nice as well. She has only been on it for 10 days so it is to soon to tell whether there will be some of the side effects. Her mood and behavior has definitely been improving. It can take several weeks to get the full effect so we are waiting and watching.
