Godzilla

Hi all!  Are any of your kids obsessed with any ONE particular thing?  Unfortunately I introduced my son to Godzilla a while back and that's all he wants to see now.  It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't try to act like him but he does and it's making me nuts all this roaring and stuff around here.  Ironically, he'll behave like an angel to get me to travel to the video store, which I rarely ever do nowadays, but a month will pass by and he'll want to see Godzilla again!  Any suggestions!  I'd flee to Toyko but I'd be scared Godzilla might show up, give me another headache with the roar, and make my son even more obsessed with his flicks!

This is so funny.  Some of the things my son has obsessed about make us laugh, but sometimes after a while they get old.  Currently my son is obsessed with Godzilla.  The problem is that he wants us to watch these movies with him.  The funny thing is that he thinks we should like everything he likes and we should want to do everything he wants.  The problem with this is that we usually are not interested in what he is interested in.  Luckily, the Godzilla obsession will pass like everything else.

Another funny thing is that a few weeks ago he wanted to go to Wal-Mart to buy something.  We told him "no".  Of course he continued to insist and we continued to say "no".  Finally he said "if I don't get it today I may not want it tommorrow."

It never ends!!!

my daughter is 8 and she has obsessed  over the strangest things....

woooly mammoths

metiorites

and now egypt...my husband and I joke alot about  us hoping it never turns to boys!

For my son, it's the show "American Chopper" on Discovery Channel.  He draws choppers....collects the toys...talks about motorcycles nonstop.

But for a seven year old to sit and draw motorcycles for thirty minutes is a good thing in my opinion.

I know this obsession all too well. For my daughter its the TV show Reba. I even went as far as getting her the DVD set of the first season. BIG MISTAKE. LOL We watched Reba from the time we got home till bed time. She loves the song "I'm a Survivor". I thought I would never watch any thing else again. I went to bed every night sing "I'm a Survivor". But after awhile it slowed down. Now I can't remember the last time she watched it. She does however watch it every Friday night and gets upset at the commercials because she thinks its over. I never minded the fact because while she watches she paints, colors or puts a puzzle together and that is the best thing I have seen her do in a long time.  Sit and do something constructive not destructive.

Hang in there. If you start roaring then its time to worry.

Don't go to Tokyo, Godzilla hates Tokyo. And so does Mothrar. You could bore him out of it by explaining Godzilla represents the helplessness Japanese felt at being nuked.

My son's current fixation is Pokemon.  We have the movies, the cards, the videogames, the toys.  He has talked to me about Pokemon so much, that I know more about Pokemon than it is healthy for any parent to know about!!!

LOL!!! I have been in the obsession trenches with my youngest son,now 11,for ages! Godzilla was a biggie back in kindergarten..now he is obsessed with wolverines, harp seals, nordic mythology, you name it. It can be aggravating when he gets so into it that his only topics of conversation revolve around the obsession-du-jour,so I told him that although HE finds some things fascinating, not everyone will at all times share his enthusiasm.I said if I was obsessed with cheese, and would only talk about cheese("I found the BEST looking GOUDA today!!),would you get a little tired of it?He did laugh and agree..but later that evening it was back to wolverines..I just tell myself someday all of this will make sense when he's a famous explorer/biologist,or whatever.Kids need to find something to be passionate about-hang in there and hope he doesnt grab onto Mothra and Rodan(godzilla's nemesis)-crazycat
