Emotional Son on Concerta 54 | ADHD Information
My son is 9 years old and has been on Concerta for 2.5 years. He has had
to go up in dosage about every 9 months and we are concerned 1) about
the dose that he is on, suppose to be as high as he can go for his 60 lb.
weight and 2) about his continuing emotional instability. One of the
reasons we first put him on Concerta was, in addition to problems
focusing, he was having problems with crying for little or no reason. At
times over the past few years this has seemed to be better controlled, but
we still see times, like now, when he has what seems like little control
over these bouts. We did have a neurodevelopmental ped tell us that he
was possibly bipolar and suggest putting him on Wellbutrin which we
rejected because he wanted to continue his Concerta at a lower dose. We
really did not want to get into putting him on two meds. Of note, this
happened at the same time last year, at the end of a tough wrestling
season, the end of winter and by the time 4th quarter started and
baseball when he was outside more, everything seemed fine again. We did
have to go up on the Concerta once school started by October, but the
summer was fine. Does any one else see this pattern in their ADD child, is
it normal, any suggestions, we are starting to feel like maybe pulling him
off of Concerta and putting him on Wellbutrin might be a better option
because of all of the emotional issues. We appreciate any feedback.
My Brother went through his hormal/puberty phase from 9-12. He just started getting better but I think alot of that has to do with the leveling of his hormones and the switch in his medication.
Hope you find the right medication/balance for your son.
