adderall and heart problems

Hello!  I am laid up in bed for quite a while, I just had open heart surgery to repair a valve in my heart.  My sister said she heard somewhere that there might be a link to adderall and valve problems.  I thought ~ NO way,  Adderall is my best friend, it makes me the functioning woman I am, don't tell me about that!  I just googled a few words and got a very brief few sites but there seems to be some concern here!  I am 40, mother of 3 kids, busy and happy life, normal stresses of raising teens, love my job, very active, very healthy and I would probably be dead in a few months to a year if I did not have this surgery to fix or replace my valve.  As I sit here with a 7 in GASH down my chest, 6 days post op, pain up to my eyeballs, I am wondering who knows what about any of this?  I have been on Adderall for probably around 5 years 10 mg 1time a day up to 3 times a day depending on what the day brings me. I THOUGHT I was absolutely thriving on it.

any thoughts? please contact me.

Elaine

I tried looking into the details of what heart problems represent a risk for Adderall but the information I could find was very vague.  You might try calling your heart doctor and see what he has to say.

I would say it's possible but it's more like the Adderall creates a better condition for the valve to start leaking (or there was already an issue) I don't think normal Adderall use is the direct link.

After one week, Adderall sent me to the hospital with chest pain.  I have never had any problems before.  I am to see a cardiologist later this week.

Adderall is not good for people with heart conditons.

It increases your heart rate so I could definately see how it could affect someone that had or was predisposed to heart problems. I know the little brochure that comes with my meds from the pharmacy says to consult with your doctor before starting adderall if you have heart problems, high blood pressure I forget what else but there was a list of things to watch out for. You know... Amphetamine's ARE bad for the heart... getting to much tune the body above it's limits... the heart beats harder, and in your case probably to hard at some times, because you may take your pills as you wish...I had open heart surgery when I was 20 months old, so my doctor refused to put me on stimulants at all.

I'm on day 4 of taking Wellbutrin SR, but so far nothing. I know I have to be patient, since anti-depressants take up to a few weeks to start working.

I'm glad to hear your condition was discovered in time, and the scar WILL fade! Mine was hot pink when I was very, very young, but now it is the same colour as the rest of my skin. It stretches from the top of my breastbone down to the botom of my ribcage.
