Anxiety or ADHD??

Had my first psychiatrist appointment yesterday. I think I have ADHD and he thinks I have anxiety issues. He says I should have been diagnosed when I was younger if it was ADHD. Whatever!!!!!! So I heard him out and it's amazing how many of the symptoms overlap. The questions he didn't answer with the anxiety diagnosis was why do I become so bored, why am I always feeling like I need to be doing something with my life, why am I always interrupting people and unable to listen to a conversation without being distracted with my own thoughts etc.

He perscribed Wellbutrin SR 150mg along with my Effexor 150 I have been taking with my previous diagnosis of depression. Duh??? I told him the Effexor makes me worse so he said after two weeks if I still feel that way to wean myself off the Effexor. I think I will do that and if I don't feel right I will try 5HTP instead. Less side effects. Anyone have any good results with Wellbutrin for ADHD and or anxiety?

Thanks

OMG I'm in the same situation as you. I took Ritlin for a trail sort of thing then I followed up with my doctor today. I explained that the 10mg Ritlin was hit or miss but I wrote a big paper full of notes about being on it and off it. I basicly wrote down my normal daily tasks and situations off Ritlin and how it was different on it.

My results with Ritlin have been positive but today after reading my notes he told me that I have depression/anxiety and gave me Effexor XR. Now what gets me is when he gave me ritlin it was a 1 month perscription to "try" but with this he gave me 6 refils. This kinda tells me he doesn't think I have ADD but depression/anxiety. I also notice alot of symptoms overlap and I also suffer from BOREDOM!!!! Anything that doesn't seem entertaining I avoid.

Most of what I wrote for my doctor mentioned this, yet he put me on Effexor now. I'm really confused because I dont think I'm depressed....but then again I guess he'd know being a doctor and all......

I figure I will try this Effexor out but I don't see how it would help wuth my organization skills, focusing, etc. I might have some anxiety symptoms but in my optinion its because of stress ADD causes me. Did Effexor do anything for you?

[/QUOTE]  Having anxiety and depression problems myself I feel very much for anyone else that does. Doctors do not always know what is best concerning Anxiety or Depression. They are not Pharmacists and basically only know what information about drugs that the Pharmacuetical Companies send them with the samples. My doctors had me on these drugs at different times: Serzone, Paxil, Xanax, among others. Due to the way these drugs alter your mind, my marriage came to the point of filing divorce papers before I said 'enough' and stopped taking prescriptions. My marriage was saved and I started looking into natural medications to relieve my Anxiety/Depression problems. I just saw on CNN a couple of weeks ago something that I already knew, that St. Johns Wort has been proven to be as effective for these conditions as Prozac is and it's true. When you make up your mind that you have to stop taking prescription medications, ( and you will to save your life ) then take St. Johns Wort with 5-HTP, GABA and Taurine. These are all natural. There are no side effects save for that St. Johns Wort can make you sensetive to bright light. It takes 4-6 weeks to work, but hang in there and handle the withdrawals that you may have to go through from the prescription drugs as best you can and you will come out clean on the other side and have your life back. Isn't it worth a try to you? St johns wort works great. Can't use welbutrin do to past seizure activity in childhood.I was diagnosed with add at 19 im 21. i started on zoloft for depression and anxiety. i first tried wellbutrin for add but that made me halucinate! Then strattera but i just cried about everything and was soo tired. it made me soo emotional and sad. adderall helps a lot for add. so i stick with that but it gives anxiety.. i have had headaches everyday since 10 years old so i just started taking nortriptyline a tricyclic antidepressend that helps headaches too. i dont know about the headaches yet, but i do know that i feel really calm and it feels like it helps the adhd...i feel my messy thinking is a bit more smoother.

A message for classiclover3 - You mention that you take St Johns Wort with 5-HTP, GABA and Taurine. Can you please let me know how you arrived on this combination?
I have been experiencing serious anxiety and depression problems for four weeks now and in that time have been doing research on the best supplements as I would like to avoid going down the medications route.
I have bought some St John's Wort as that seems to get good reviews all over the place.
But please tell me what the 5-HTP, GABA and Taurine are for?
I need something to stablise my mood, help me to sleep and also to relieve the constant racing thoughts of anxiety in my head.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Gareth
I am taking adderall and Buspar and so far  so good.

I will update later.......

Our brains and nervous systems are largely made up of fats. We need essential fatty acids to run them correctly. Omega 3 fatty acids and fish oils will make the difference. It is known that the best way to get these in our systems is through the consumption of fatty fish or fish oils. Look it up!

Seabiotics Childrens Neurofactor is a combination of omega 3s and deep ocean shark liver oil w/naurally occurring Alkylglycerols.

These products have proven over and over that this is the answer to a large amount of all of our health problems.

If you want to kick prescription drugs. If you want a natural remedy with no side effects. If you want to go through life happier and more clear than ever. If you want no more depression and ADD. Try this!

I have been on the product for over 5 months. I started sleeping like a baby after just one week. I felt my head clearing up considerably after just days. I have no more symptoms of depression or ADHD. And by the way at 50 I no longer have any symptoms of menopause (no night sweats, hot flashes etc.)

I feel better than I have felt in years.

Although I can't speak on some of the alternatives I've seen listed here - I can tell you that St. Johns - as with Ginko in european tests has been found no more effective in blind tests than placebo.  So they are looking at the preparations and the way it's processed so jury is effectively out.

Melatonin - tests strongly show that with light therapy it can aid sleep and avoid depression.

As with medication - make sure you know the stuff you ingest.  Some herbals counteract actual medications so be sure to let your doc know if you end up antibiotics or for that matter anything.  They now ask at the pharmacy about herbals as they are way smarter about it then they used to be.

I'm going to look up GABA sounds interesting.  Many of the oils - testers are saying they don't know how they could work as they get broken down into simple fat chains by the time they are digested.  But I'm going to see as I like all tools I can make use of.

I keep hearing alot about these fish oils, not only here for ADHD, but also for weight training (both of my favorite challenges)........I am thinking there is a riddle out there, and the sooner we all figure it out, the better out lives will become!  As far as depression.....I haven't met alot of people (with ADHD) who are full-time downers (depressed consistently), more like they are just moody or feel down.  I would think this is to the seratonin roller coaster that they are experiencing all the time.  I would suggest (In my own personal experience, that certain anti-depressants such as zoloft (SSRI Inhibitors....I think is the medi-term) can help with that.  Its wierd, sometimes I feel like nothing can stop me, I feel great, make a connection, a step forward, then I have a dip and wonder what the hell happened hear, and why did I push my self in this situation?  What do you guys think?0005 -sounds like you are talking about a mood swing, from high to low.  That can happen when there is an imbalance.  Have you recently stopped taking a medication? I was on a low dose of Zoloft......I recently got off it to see how I would respond.  Its, funny, I can't seem to remember how exactly I felt while on it, verse how I feel now.  I do get anxiety from time to time (which always brings about past failures, ect) but I am wondering if thats just life, and that I shouldn't look for a crutch to lean on.  I know that meds are there, and sometimes they can help.0005 --   You sound a little down.   Are you having problems concentrating?  Sometimes it is not obvious to the person who is depressed that there's a problem especially if they have ADHD.  Since I don't know you, I can't say if there's a problem or not.  But the imbalance worries me.  It could be from coming off your anti-depressant or it could be you are getting imbalanced due to depression.  I suggest you get re-evaluated by your doctor.  It couldn't hurt.

I am a 49 year old male Dx with ADD two years ago.  Had significant anxiety component to my ADD due to the many years of coping and overcompensating for my ADD.  I am currently on Strattera and 300mg of Wellbutrin XL.  I am a new person.  I feel great most of the time  Took me a fairly long time to accept some of the SE of  the Strattera(Urinary/ Sexual).  With XL I had the dull headache for several weeks, but has since disappeared.  Great combo for me.   I can honestly say that the anxiety I used to expereince 24/7, is a thing of the past.
