New understanding for my ADD | ADHD Information

Share

I'm a 36 yr married mother of 3 and grandmother (my stepsons) to 1 , they are all living with us. ages 14,8,7,3 . I was Dx with add when my oldest son was about 2 years ago we both went on adderal and that was that . My youngest was Dx. with ADHD and Dyslexia about a year later. No one suggested consoling or treatment programs so i read a few books (parts of books) on add in children.

I recently dove into another depression and was determined to take some action and got on the Internet and started learning ALLOT. It has been to ADD that has been the core of all my problems. I had no idea that disorganization was part of my ADD. I have tried to read "women with attention deficit disorder" (almost) It really opened my eyes to allot of issues Ive been dealing with all my life ! I love this book I'm struggling to make it to the end of the book though, lol .

I also bought 'DELIVERED FROM DISTRACTION' by Edward hallowell IN AUDIO! I have listen to ALL of it although my mind did wonder through out but Ill listen to it several times more I'm sure.     SO.... I made an app. to see psychiatrist but there are no support groups here and I know I'm going to need help getting my life together. I need suggestions and knowing you have been here I hoped I could get advice from you.

Hi and welcome! We're all about support

We dont have any support groups here where I live, either, so this board has been very helpful for me. Hope you find it helpful too.

Good luck with your psychiatrist appointment!

Hi and Welcome!

I was just diagnosed in August and just found this board and it has been soooooooooo helpful to me to realize there are others out there just like me! Who knew? LOL

I have read Driven to Distraction and I loved that book. I too realize now that ADD was the core of most of my frustrations in life that resulted in some serious depressions. Now that I have been diagnosed and I am on Dexedrine, I haven't been depressed at all because I can cope and learn to work with this way of thinking. I don't think of ADD as a disorder, but just a totally different way of thinking and interacting with the world. Just knowing though that I'm not lazy, stuipd, unmotivated and flaky was a huge weight off my shoulders!

Anyways, I'll stop chattering away (I can talk and type forever LOL ) but it is great to have you here. You will love everyone here, they are so friendly and so supportive - it's great!
