We given on weekends because makes his life easier.Strattera must not same as stimulants. Can't be in control with out. We tryed at a basballgame . Bad choice. Our son craves sugar but causes hyper. We use splenda and honey inplace. Best sweetners.Stevia and Xylitol health food store. The Xylitol prevents cavities and great for ears not getting ear aches.
Earache solution : drop Tee tree oil kills infections. Only thing that kills staph.

Trying to convince hubby to start the evaluation process and was wondering if this was an option. Thanks for posting this!
I think for some kids it works better having this break (as in my sons case) because they catch up on some much needed sleep deprived by meds and also eat better therefore this also helps their brain function better tooI am an adult and I take medicine breaks too...it depends on what I have going on....but sometimes it is a good check point for me to see if the positive behaviors I am establishing on meds maintain when I am off.....As an adult it is easier to measure.....I still have my "to DO lists and I still get things done without meds...but it is alot more stressful. and chaotic. But sometimes..I do appreciate the positive effects of the meds after a break..and I do think it helps to eat a bit more an sleep a bit more...It helps balance.[QUOTE=MegMarie]I am an adult and I take medicine breaks too...it depends on what I have going on....but sometimes it is a good check point for me to see if the positive behaviors I am establishing on meds maintain when I am off.....As an adult it is easier to measure.....I still have my "to DO lists and I still get things done without meds...but it is alot more stressful. and chaotic. Sounds like a good idea to me. I'm an adult and just started adderall a month ago and have been thinking about this. If I have a few days without much to do, why not? Going to ask my doctor what she thinks about it.
I try to occasionally not take meds.....but this is not often at all....and only when I have nothing that I need to get done and when I'm going to be out and about. A lot of times, I will say to myself in the morning, I will go no meds for the day, but after a couple hours, I can't handle myself, so I end up taking them. Happened just yesterday. I am definitely very stronly AD/HD and am impulsive, etc and my mind just goes 1000 miles a minute and it bothers me. I guess on the days that I decide to try no meds, I just want to think that AD/HD doesn't affect me or something...I guess I just get frustrated with how my brain works sometimes.
Depending on what we have going on, most weekends I do not give my children their ADHD meds. I do it because they seem to eat better while not on their meds and I believe that it teaches them that they do not need to rely on their meds, its only makes it easier for them to focus on their ativities.
This makes their doctor mad. I keep hearing from her that they need their meds daily and not to take breaks. I have gotten to the point that I mark my calendar for when to call for refills in order to keep her quiet. ps she is a behavioral pediatrician that my pediatrician sent me to. We have dicussed my dislike of her and my pediatrician agrees but says that she is an"expert" in her field. She is also the dr that the media interviews when there is a ADHD issue that makes the news.
Some think that weekend breaks are good because well then you take less medicine...but i think that if you need to be on medicine to concentrate, you should need it on weekends. if you are just taking medicine so you can attend, well i don't think your add/adhd is bad enough to need medicine at all. some need medicine so much so if they took a break their life would fall apart.HI give my son his meds. even on the weekend and during vacations and summer, he is 11 and can not handle what he does when not on meds, or in his words i can't control my mind to listen. My 12 year old nephew who also has adhd, is not medicated on the weekends, or during any breaks, and to be honest he's obnoxious and bouncing off the walLs with no medication, i truly believe it depends on your child, and if your able to deal with them not medicated.
Does anyone notice that their child is better able to focus in school if they skip their medicine one or both days of the weekend? I did not believe in not giving my son his medicine on weekends but about four weeks ago we forgot his medicine on Sunday and he had one of the best weeks at school in along time. So for the next couple of weeks we did not give him his medicine on Sunday and he has had great weeks. Last weekend we did give him his medicine and the teacher said this was his first bad week he has had in awhile. Is this just a fluke or has anyone else found this to be the case? Needless to say the days he does not take his medicine are difficult.
Thanks for any ideas. Also, I am very interested in the concept of what they eat for breakfast and how it impacts their day.
