Adderall and Caffiene.... | ADHD Information

Share

I have been taking adderall for just over a month...Yesterday I took my second dose around lunch time...My morning dose was wearing off and I had a coke around the same time I took my meds....I had the worst afternoon....my heart was pounding for the first time on meds...I had anxiety...a lump in my throat..and I was still feeling the effects until 10pm.....the meds usually wear off for me in about 4 hrs...Could these side effects have occured because of the combo of caffiene and adderall? Before I took meds..I used to drink cokes all day long...When I am on my meds It doesn't even sound good.....OK..I am officially rambling...( You can tell I did not take me meds today, I was a bit freaked out from yesterday)  Anyway....thought I would ask you all...Thanks

Oh, Bob, I think you misunderstood what you thought I misunderstood.    In otherwords you didn't sound like your meds/dosage would work for anyone.    I definitely realize everything works differently for different people. That's my point. I'm am just very happy for you. It's always good to hear a success story.

Recently, I've been working out (which helps with sleeping) and cut back on my java. I know caffeine does "double" medicate, and can mess up the meds working properly.
My house although not "neat" is far from chaos.   Things have a place and it's where they are now.   It used to be chaos, piles and paths.
Ha Ha, Bob...I need to laugh! Boy, "paths" is what my place is right now. I'm still working on the right dosage, but will NOT miss the paths, piles and chaos once I find the one that works.
I didn't mean to sound like  my dose and med would work for anyone...I know that's not  how it works :(....I do think the diet/caffeine/alcohol/other mood altering drugs  stuff is worth trying  for a month rigorously ...what does anyone really have to loose  by trying  it?Bob, I'm very, very happy for you! You found what works for you. Now, I would just hope the same for all of us who still haven't found the med or the dosage that works yet. I would like to know, tho, if you have any problems getting to sleep or stayinhg asleep?

I guess I should also switch to decaff....cuz I was self medicating with caffeine for years.GypsyWomyn38408.7223263889

Yes, your side effects are due to caffiene.  Adderall is a stimulant and your adding another stimulant to it when you drink caffience.  The side effects may lessen over time, but you will always be effected.  Best bet is to dramatically reduce your caffiene intake.  I don't drink many sodas, but I love coffee.  So I had to switch to decaff ............

good luck.

My Dr. told me  one of my MUSTS  was to discontinue   caffeine  when i started medication. It wasn't a suggestion. He won't treat ADHDers who drink or use caffeine.  His point  being  both drugs  make effective treatment harder. I already didn't drin  and frankly, don't miss caffeine at all  it jsut made me edgy and gave me palpatations

He suggested I radically change my diet  and  eliminate or severely limit  white flour, suger  and, processed foods. I listened and folled his advice.  It  has had a tremedous effect above and beyond  the medication  once I   got into a healthy eatting pattern of whole foods not the , less simple starches, no sugar, limited  juice and fruit, higher protein.

I take   10 mg of ritalin 3 times a day, eat right, exercise and, have never felt  better nor  ever been more "in charge" of my life. The unmanageability of ADD  is at a minimum. I am doing well at work. I  don't get there and want to leave now.  I have my Dr. appts on a Calander and haven't missed on   in 2 months. My bills are current.  My house although not "neat" is far from  chaos.   Things have a place  and   it's where they are now.   It used to be   chaos, piles  and paths. I am  excelling in school. I  never knew I  could do this well( I did  good before  but always by a wing and a prayer  and innate intelligence). I now sit fairly still, listen , don't drift and watch the clock  the whole class  and have  banged high As in both classes so far.  Asking for  help was  the second smartest thingI did...the smartest was listening to my DR. rather than  disregarding the "directions"  for treatment...F-ing A  first time I ever followed directions in my life!
