We break open the Strattera capsule. The web site says not to, but we were informed that it is OK. No side effects. Strattera seems to have made a significant difference in focus and attention. 20mg dose daily in AM.
The problem is our son (7) cannot swallow the capsules. He has been taking it in yogurt, but even then says it tastes like soap, and gives us a hard time. We need to find something else.
We'll try a bagel with Nutella (a hazelnut spread). We'll try putting the medecine on the bread, and spread Nutella over it to cover the taste.
We may try he juice box idea. Has anyone looked to see if the medecine sticks to the sides, or does it all get consumed?
I would not try it.
swallowing tips for capsules
Since it is in capsule form and will float tell child not to tilt his head back like with pills instead have child lean forward with water +pill in mouth first and then tilt head back the capsule should float right down. Hope this helps.
I was told not to crush or open a capsul as that defeats the release mechanism in the med.I have been doing it for 3 mths now. no one told me not to (pharm. nuro) my daughter is on a low dose 10mg in the morn 10 at night maybe thats why???try a juice contanor that she has to suck to get liquid out like gatorad or power aid bottles those seem to help my son cause whe he sucks he swallows with out thinking about it.
worth a try
You can also put the pill in something easy to swallow, like applesauce or pudding. My mom does that with my brother and it works wonders.Very good idea Frustrated.
