Music: Helps or Hurts Concentration? | ADHD Information

Agreed.... familiar music, little/no vocals, and steady rhythm are necessary. I think the point is to drown out other distractions - especially with headphones. Okay, I am an idiot. That first poll was totally impossible to answer. Here's the new one.  scarygreengiant38407.4875462963Depends on the music.music can help or hurt. pop music and "catchy tunes" are horrible. i do well with  non-club rap music, techno and classical music. also scores from movies are good too. It completely depends on what I am doing. If I am reading, listening to a conversation, or trying to focus on a mental task that involves words or numbers, it distracts the hell out of me.

If I am driving, I NEED the music because it keeps my mind "in" the car. If I am doing housework, or another unenjoyable physical task, music helps distract my mind from the boringness (sp?) of the task.
Weird. Before I started my ADHD medication regime. Music used to distract me. Now, four months into treatment. It doesn't bother me. I listen to music while I study, and still got an A in Physics.

it helps me concentrate with some things.

depends on the music too.

ooooooooooo i like this one  i always find my self trying to listen to music when i'm working i love it because i can do things alot better and yes as much as i h8 it vocal music does kinda put me into a differnt world lol

For me it totally depends on the music and the day for me. But for the most part, if I really need to focus and concentrate a quiet classical or celtic type music is best or no music at all :o)
