| Using Concerta & Strattera Together | |||
| |
Does anyone have a input or experience on using Concerta 54mg and Strattera 18mg together as a 1x/day dose? My 11 yr old had tried almost every med. He failed both doses of Adderall. It seems that he metabolizes the medication too fast. The combination of Concerta & Strattera was the suggestion of my Peditrician. The next step would be a private eval with a child psychirist. Or to enroll him in a study at Kennedy Kreiger Inst. Unfortunately, I work full time and my employer is not too thrilled with me taking off. The cost of a private eval is $1500 and insurance would not cover. I am hoping and praying that the combination of the two drugs work. I would appreciate any input. Thanks :o) MaureenMy son age 9, weighs 50 #'s take Adderall XR 10 mg and Strattera 40 mg once a day. It works rather well. The Strattera definetely takes the edge off the rebound when the Adderall wears off. It also helps the effectiveness of the Adderall XR. He had been taking Adderall XR 15 mg but was having alot of problems with sleep on that dosage. When we dropped to the Adderall XR 10 mg he just didn't get the benefits of concentration he had with the higher dose. Adding the Strattera helped with the effectiveness without causing the sleep problems or adding any other side effects. help me HI my name is nate i have just been put on staterra on the 19th i took 18mg for 4 days then today i started 25mg i have been having bad side effects of mood swings and pains. yet no one believes me not my mom not my doctor. It is working very well. There are hardly any rebound effects or anger fits anymore. Hope it will be a good combo for your son! My little girl is 7 years old weighs 40#;s the doctor just upped her dose of concerta to 54 mg which im noticing she is haveing a lot of mood swings and she is very sad all the time,do u experience this?and she is on clonidnine 0.3 mg for bedtime to sleep but its not working they say concerta has a side affect of sleeplessness.SandraM Hi! Our 11 yr old son was having some mood swings. They were mostly in the early AM at wake up and until we loaded up and went to school. Once at school he was fine. There was never any reported behavior problems. No problems with sleeplessness and this is a child that goes to bed by 8PM and awakes at 6AM during the school week. On the weekend he sometimes sleeps to 10 or 11AM. The Concerta 54mg works well and it's been a week since we added the Strattera 18mg. I'm awaiting feedback from the teachers. He states "that he feels more focused". Again, he metabolizes meds very quickly and I'm just hoping this will work. Thanks for your input! Maureen, Depending on where you live I can reccomend a good place for you to have your child evaluated at. It is called Four Winds Psychiatric Hospital. It specializes in inpatient and outpatient care/treatment of children and youth. Depending on your income level you may be able to get government assitance with an evaluation or if you have insurance inquire with them about getting your child evaluated. Medication alone may not be enough. My niece and nephew both have ADHD and Bi-Polar and have been on many different medications. They have not been given Strattera yet becasue that medication has only been proven effective on children aage 12 or up but it is mainly for adult ADD not ADHD which would be the child form. Therapy is very important as well. Without therapy my niece and newphew would be much much worse. But most important of all do not give up on your child as they need you now more than ever. I can relate to what children who have ADHD/ADD go through. I am a 29 year old adult female who has ADD and has had it since early childhood and has a serious problem with letting the illness control her life and not let her emotionaly grow past 6 years old. I have slowly overcome some problems over the years but I could not had done it without the support of my close family and friends. I wish you the best of luck and if I may I would like to include you and your family in my prayers. |
