Our son is in the fourth grade and  is having difficulty with doing math.  The doctor says that this is unrelated to the ADHD, that our son just has a wekness is math.  IS there any information in regards to math and ADHD?

Thanks,

Helene

I don't know. It's possible that it's completely unrelated to the ADHD. Everyone has weaknesses or subjects that they don't like.  There are plenty of non-ADHD people who don't like math and have difficulties with it. On the other hand, it could be related to ADHD. The lack of focus and concentration that comes with ADHD could inhibit math skills. Many teachers said I was good at math but I never really did that well in math classes.  "You're good at math but..."

My daughter in grade 3 with adhd doesn't have any math problems, it is her reading.  Her sister in grade 4 though (who we think has a mild add) is having major difficulties in math she is at approx grade 2.5 level

I think it is just whether they get it or they don't.

it used to be said that problems with math and reading go hand in hand with ADD/ADHD. That was the first question I was asked when my child was diagnosed. I guess that's not so true any more, my son is doing great in math as long as he doesn't have to write it, he can rattle off numbers in his head. Tamaraw196938410.5239814815
