Thank you all who offered support;
It is sad to realize that this place does not longer feels like a shelter where I, a patient and parent of an ADHD child, can freely voice my opinion. This was for me, a place where I felt understood and where I could share my life experiences dealing with this and other psychiatric disorders without inhibition. However, as a result of recent hostile comments and other’s blatant inability to understand. I posted a message in which I spoke about Bipolar testing methods, but it was misinterpreted as ADHD testing. What hurts the most is that one of those members came to me on another board questioning my request for help (not in a nice way), as I experience difficulties with my ADHD medication. This is blow that, as a patient and a mother of children with psychiatrist disorders, hurt me in a very genuine way.
Every comment, I have made has been in good will, with the hope that it sparks a hunger for knowledge that can lead to a better understanding of this and other disorders. This is, however, not the place I came to know--a place where support was provided to those in need and life-experiences were shared. As of my comment about medication intended mainly as a way to make our behavior satisfy society’s rules of conduct. This is my opinion, and just that. We normally only hear the negative aspects of ADD-ADHD, perhaps we should begin to focus on the positive qualities that most ADD-ADHD people possess, outgoing personalities, creativity, energy. In fact, some of the most famous individuals in history are now thought to be ADD and/or ADHD. Just a few of these are: Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Leonardo DaVinci, Mozart, Socrates, Beethoven, the Wright brothers, John F. Kennedy, Ernest Hemmingway, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Abraham Lincoln, and Eleanor Roosevelt. These bright minds were not medicated. Now, I am not implying that medications are bad. For Pete’s sake, my major is Psychiatry! I simply attempted to encourage an open mind to other things that can help in addition to prescription if this is the choice taken by parents. Phsychiatrist do not have enough time to disscuss all factors that can impact a mental disorder in a one-hour's session. Well, this is probably the last time you’ll hear from me here, so good luck to all.

Ivette...I don't know which posts you are referring to, but I agree with you that meds are not always the best route for some. I am sooo very sorry you had a bad experience on this forum. There are many posts that refer to the positive of being ADHD...you just have to search for them.
