DIET!!! is huge

I don't know about vitamins  but, sugar, white flour, simple carbs, food addotives, preservatives, artifical sweetners am the devil

My Dr swore I would get  results  if I  follwed a diet  high in protein, low in sugar  and minus all proccessed foods...he was right. I  take medication but diet is  a big help. If I   blow it  I feel it the next day.

Anyone know anything about the product listed on this site:

Again, same basic problem, taking more of a neurotransmitter precursor does not necessarily increase the levels of that neurotransmitter.  Your body requires a certain amount, after that, it will not help.  I can't say whether or not that will help you, but in all likelyhood you're already getting enough of the serotonin precursors as-is.

Further, even if you did have a dietary deficiency resulting in low serotonin levels, that does not affect ADD as ADD is characterized by low dopamine and noradrenaline levels, whereas depression and anxiety are linked to low serotonin levels.

So, there is a chance that taking serotonin precursors as in the page you linked *may* help you with depression/anxiety, and if they do, more power to you.  But keep in mind serotonin levels are not related to ADD.
Meant on my part, hit reply and nothing showed, so I did it again.

That's exactly what I was describing-- the "imbalance" responsible for ADD is low levels of dopamine and noradrenaline in the brain.  If you look at the dietary precursors for the formation of dopamine and noradrenaline, I think you'll find it is  difficult not to get them.  There was a study done on this a while back, and nutritional changes were found to be beneficial in 5% of cases (1).  There was also a rash of "vitamin cures" in the 1980s and there was never any proof they worked.

Yeah, I've wondered about the women out numbering the men....I've read again and again that ADHD is more common in men. ??? Perhaps men aren't as apt to post on one of these forums. for those who do!

Brian, I may just be trying vitamin therapy myself, if the meds I'm working with now don't work, since I'm limited to what I can take.

I know that Omega-3 and the B vits are supposed to help. I just wish they would come out with a smaller Omega-3 pill.      But I've been trying to eat more fresh fish.

Very interested also in what you learn about vitamin therapy. Keep us posted, please. Thanks!GypsyWomyn38414.6333680556

[QUOTE=RandomUser]Hmm, hope this isn't a double post.  Anyway, it's possible poor nutrition can be linked to not enough dopamine/noradrenaline production in the brain, but that's very rare, especially as the essential amino acid they are made from (phenylalanine) is in nutrasweet/aspartame and therefore diet pop, so the odds of nutrition playing a role in it are pretty low. Thanks for the comment.....

Nope, not a "double post" I'm new here. And my topic was not about 'nutrition' as much as 'nutritional supplements' the research I have done has returned some information about being careful not to take toxic levels of certain vitamins. So anyone who has attempted using supplements to alter/improve (?) the chemical balance is my target audience.

I can't help with the vitamins I'm afraid, Brian, but I'd love to know if you find anything useful - I'm having a real hard time getting 'proper' meds here in Merrie England.  The biggest help I find is in a real heavy dose of nicotine (as in a good cigar or a strong pipe tobacco) - but you probably don't want to go there..

Anyhow, welcome to the forum, and I hope you stick around a while - we men are heavily outnumbered by the girlies on here

Mark -

I am an ADHD tested and diagnosed father of a diagnosed ADHD son who is now 15 years old.

It has been hard enough for me to go through the issues myself, but watching my son go through his own issues himself is taking a real toll on me. It has been just like watching my life replayed from a VCR right before my eyes.

I have tried three different meds and none of them have really helped me to my satisfaction. I was wondering if any adults have attempted vitamin therapy? And if so, how has it worked for you? Any info would be helpful!

Thank you.
