Vitamins? | ADHD Information
Thank youWe are using a multivitamin that doesn't have artificial coloring, and an additional calcium/magnesium/zinc supplement and it seems to be doing some good for my 5 year old. Calcium and magnesium are just excreted from the body if given in excess, so no worries about toxicity. I also read labels and try to avoid phosphates whenever possible. It is not just the total amount of a mineral or vitamin that goes into you, the ratio of one mineral to another is very important in some cases, for other minerals they require a vitamin in order for the body to use it. I hear a lot of you talk about vitamin suppliments to help our children what vitamins are being used? My daughter is only 5 and I do not want to start her on anything until it is a last resort for the idea scares me. I always have concerns over side effects and long time usage effects. I am however interested in vitamins. I worked in mental health 7 years and now a service coordinator working with people with disabilities which is probibly why my views are this way. I am so gratful for this website.
Jillian, I've been posting on my success with vitamins and change in diet for my 6 year old son. You can read them in my threads (2 lasted posted on Feb. 26th and 1 last posted on March 2nd). I would love to encourage anyone to give it a try. Feel free to email me.

Jillette,
You probably know that the first thing to consider
before taking any supplement is this: Does the body
produce it naturally?
There are some that build toxicity while others don't.
Some that are safe for most people include fish oils,
which contain Omega-3 fatty acids.
Have you ever heard of DMAE in the mental-health
environment?
Research it and see what you think. It stands for
dimethylaminoethanol. But ask a pharmacist or
RELIABLE doctor who's not a prescription pusher
how safe it would be for a 5-year-old.
ScottyboyThank you and I am planning to discuss any vitamin with the Pediatrition first. Since November things are changing my daughter is showing the mean side of ADD to me so far and constantly lying and denies it, yells, screams and whines. So far the only medications she is on is her Asthma stuff and has allergy meds for she has all year round allergies and without the allergy stuff she cannot breath out of her nose another reason I do not want to add to the medication list.Dmea: doesn't work on all people school said made things worse. I think it was, the cafateria food that doesn't help these kids. Our son will not eat food I send.Research DMea read works opposite for some.Recomended for ages 5 and over. My wife can't use because of past seizure in childhood. Not reccomended if seizure activity is occuring or have had.KJVB38416.4236458333Allergies and Asthma get rid of store bought house cleaning products. Bad to be breating in. These contain toxic chemicals. Get a home air/sanitzing purifier.Use products like these instead: Melaleuca.com, Watkins, Halleua diet. Better for you health. No toxic chemicals.
Advocates of the dietary treatment of ADHD suggest that with the supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids children will show a significant improvement in their behavior without the need for medication. These acids are found in all fish oils. (Stordy, 2000).
.
Children with asthma and allergies who are supplemented with omega 3s from fish oils have a clear advantage over the other children with the same problems who do not supplement with the omega 3s.
It appears that children with ADHD just are not able to chemically convert the plant omega-3, ALA to fish oil very well. The problem is further worsened when omega-6 fats are consumed and the ideal omega-6:3 ratio of 1:1, progresses to the typical standard American ratio of 15:1. Many of these children have ratios which are even worse and can be as high as 50:1.
This study provides the research evidence supporting the use of the omega-3 fats found in fish oils to effectively address the underlying deficiency that is present in most of these children and appears to be contributing to the ADHD.
Medications do not address the underlying causes of ADHD. (The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)
Contrary to previous speculation, new evidence has shown that the body cannot make adequate amounts of DHA from flax seed oil. However, eating oily fish twice a week will provide a modest intake of DHA and additional supplementation with fish oil high in omega 3 fatty acids will ensure a steady and adequate supply.
These are just a few excerpts you can find if you search omega 3s and children.
Also with healthy immune system our bodys can correct the problems.

Hi Jillette
Just wanted to encourage you to give the vitamins/supplements a try after having great success with my 9 year old son.
He has Omega 3, zinc, magnesium, chromium and eats a sugar, wheat, additive and preservative free diet. I firmly believe that diet and supplements go hand in hand in my sons case.
You will find what is best for your daughter.
Wishing you all the best.
Hello
My daugther has been on Melaluca vitamins since July and the difference is AMAZING. I would reccommended it to everyone.Dillon has been on vitamins his whole life. Vitamins are usually fine, we don't get what we need in our diet and the way food is grown these days, it's really depleted of vitamins and minerals, so a suppliment is nessasary. Most vitamins will just pass in urine if not used by the body. I have had great success with vitamins and Omegs and an herbal suppliment called Focus. When I saw this post I thought I did not start this one then I looked again the date was in 2004 LOL! She is now going to be 7 in NovemberI did not even notice that either! How funny. I thought it was a strange question from you!Hello
My daughther is on Vitamins for Melaluca. My rep is at scc_jacky@yahoo.ca if you are looking for more information. If you just want to stick with vitamins, get one with minerals. Minerals seem to be more central to the issue than actual vitamins.
