Finding employers who want ADHD? | ADHD Information

Share
Well, I just lost my job today. Funny how I can keep a 'permanent' position and keep it for several years but put me in with a "temp" placement company and I cant seem to make it past two or three weeks.

Well, I have always read about how there are employers who realize and want the special abilities that can accompany a person suffering from ADHD, but how can I find those employers?

Suggestions, anyone?

Are you kidding??? If they do want ADHDers it's probably just so they can hire you at low pay. Don't talk about getting fired, I've been too close so many times. I'm STILL drowning in this disorder despite my medication (my dose is probably too low).

Zorg, I know of someone who works with employers and employees with disabilities, including ADHD. If you want, I can PM her address to you. I need to find out first if she works long distance. Where are you in this great counry?

Also, I'm sure if you search the interent, you'll find something, even in your area, that will direct you to help with employers. Try looking at your State Work Source sites, too. (Use to be unemployment office...in WA they are now called Work Source.) Many, many tools and links.

I, personally, had problems with permanent and temp positions. Always ended up losing my cool. See how cool and collected I am now, since I'm NOT working. (I know, that's not funny.) You may want to look into things like advertising.
I once read of a guy working in that  field that his boss would ask him not to take his meds on days they needed ideas!!!
Wish you the best of luck

I've been fired before too.  From my experience, I've found that it's better not to focus on my ADD and not look for someone who'll want someone with ADD because really I had to realize myself, who would ...

However, if you focus on your assets - some of which may be associated with ADD - then you have something to sell.  Like anyone else in the market, I think we have to rely on our individual assets that outweigh our faults.

If you were an employer, would you want to hire someone who said they had ADD ...

Well for the past eight years, I worked in a call center for an large communications company, every thing i learned was reputition.  I was a senior person had 5 weeks vacation, but I never got any of the managers jobs, however i was used as one when they were sick.

I felt i needed to do better so found a job working for a private jet company.  I new it was a stuggle for me and after 6 weeks they fired me.  Told me I had excellant customer service skills but was just too slow in learning the ropes and didnt pay attentionn when i was told what to do even though I was told nemorous times.

I am a single mom and I was totally devasted.  That is when I found that I should really admitt to my add which i hadnt all my life, it was like it was a secrect I didnt want anyone to know about.

I now have to be retrained, and know I cannot retain info and I also dont listen, even though I try so hard it goes in one ear and out of the other.

I am going back to school and start on Mar 30th, and am taking microcomputer business applications.  I am hoping when i pass this i can have my own business and help new business start up there computer programs and maybe contract to them .  I dont if this will work, as this would end the "firing" thing.

Many employers today tend to "steroe type add"  just as they do mental disorders, and tend to stay away.

I think it's important to find a job that holds your attention (or sometimes NOT). Where I work every day is different. It's never the same day to day and that works for me! I have met countless people with ADHD working for the temp service my company employs. Tamaraw196938417.3799537037
