Being dad,  ADHD is caused by biochemical imbalances, not chemical imbalances as drug companies would have us all believe.  "Bio" means "natural."  So a biochemical imbalance is a problem of the natural chemicals that make up the human brain.  These include Omega-3 fats, B3, B6, B12, zinc, etc.,.  When a doctor says your child has ADHD, he does so without one shred of physical evidence.  My older son, Eric, was diagnosed ADHD but we found that he had pyroluria, sub-clinical pellagra, and acrodynia.  Doctors are not trained in these disorders but they are very, very real.  Look up pyroluria on the net - there's tons of info on it since it was discovered over 50 years ago.  It can be detected with a urine test for about .00.  White spots on the fingernails are often a sign of pyroluria.  Sub-clinical pellagra is due to a deficiency of protein and vitamin B3.  Acrodynia is a disorder that shrinks mistakenly diagnose as "bipolar" every day.  One physical symptom of acrodynia is small spots of white, flaky skin on hands and/or feet. It is caused by a deficiency of B6. Feel free to email me if you'd like more info.

hi being dad,

yes there's lots of stuff out there that are "natural"

we have used homeopathy very successfully with our son.  we tried diet changes, which had some initial promising results and even tried the feingold diet last summer.  i do know my son reacts very strongly to various food dyes which are in EVERYTHING!    there's a book, "is this your child" by dr. doris rapp that is a great read on all different kinds of allergies and how they mainifest in children (to look alot like adhd)  my local library carried it.

"ritalin free kids" by dana ullman is another great book and a good intro. to homeopathy.  also at my library.

we work with a homeopath and i think it is the main reason we have had such great results.  just trying remedies on your own is probably not going to get you anywhere.   there are alot of so-called homeopathic treatments availble that are actually combination remedies that some have had success with.  i think they are over-priced and not worth the time and money.

i can give more info. if you are interested.

good luck!

Yeah, American food  sucks. There is pretty much nothing in the  the store i eat other than     organic milk, meat, chicken,  ocean fish,(they give the   regular livestock so much crap  and crap is what i dont need)  fresh fruit and vegetables,  frozen veggies( no sauces)  and canned tomoatoes( I am not making sauce  everytime I need sauce for something)  dried beans, spices

For me  Diet really did help along with medicine.

The rest of the food....read the labels...if you cant say it  dont eat it

Has anyone tried any natural products? What Kind? How did they work? I am trying to find some alternative to the conventional methods of pharmacueticals

Diet helps but  I came to believe the conclusion of the majority of the medical community that adhd  is a physical disorder  and  a lot of people  wont ever "think" there way out of it and I was one of them and  medicine might and did help me.

There are posts here about "herbal" products if you look. When buying something not scientifically tested let the buyer beware.  If  a product makes outrageous claims of succuss  and is  made up of some simple herbs dont you think big pharma would of made it into a pill and patented  it if there  was any scinece to back up the claim? Don't  you think MERK would be peddling   the active  componenets of garlic   as a proproietary  frormula  if the claims GARLIQUE made in Parade  magazine ads every week were supported by real  double blind scientific studies?

The real danger with herbal medicines  and adhd imo is metals.  When tested  a very LARGE percentage of  "herbal rememdies"  shipped here from china  had heavy metal contamination.  A lot of the anto medicine people say it's enviromental toxins  yet so many   herbal remedies  have unlisted toxins...do the googles the truth is out there lol

Bobbel : should study herbs at one time that's all there was.Herbs do work we use also.Study essential oils also. These are alernative treatments like health food stores. Can work just need to find one that works with your system. Modern meds. treat systems. Homeopathic treats causes. We have studyed nutrition also.hi princezztaty,

strangely enough, i looked in my phone book and found a homeopath!  we had the initial consult and i found that she was not a "classical" homeopath who prescribes one remedy at a time.  i did more research and started visiting homeopathy websites with discusion forums.  long story short, i hooked up with a different homeoapth that we now work with online.  we have been amazed at what homeopathy has done for my son and our family.

check out www.homeopathy-cures.com  they list  homeopaths by state.  i can also give you info. on my homeopath.

if you haven't already, search under homeopathy and adhd.  there's a wealth of stuff out there.

be aware that products like attend, be calmed, and others are listed as homeopathic remedies but they really are not.  they are combination remedies with other things added in.  don't buy 'em!

pm me if you have other questions, i'm happy to share!

good luck in your search

be careful  with what you read on the internet  there  are people who have powerful  beliefs disconnected from science fact  about ADHD and they are more than happy to share  others  and there own  beliefs and assumptions as facts.  I am sure  people get misdiagnosed and I am equally sure ADHD is very real.

kppy, i just got that ritalin-free kids book at my library today...also i like a book by dr. david stein...unraveling the add/adhd fiasco....very imformatie too...im trying to go the way of homeopathic remedies? any suggestions on how to go about this?? princezztaty38418.9676851852NWMOM .. you seem to have this all figured out.. So what do suggest?Dear being dad, be very careful of herbal remedies, I myself tried my son on Focus ADHD.  We had a very very scary reaction the 5th day he was on it.  We have changed his diet and even applied meditation.  While this helped a little, I now have a Dr. Appt Friday to try the Concerta.
