OT- Why did you pick your nick? | ADHD Information

Share

Nick is short for nick-name. In this case the user name you have used when you signed up for this ADHD forum.

I thought it might be fun to go off topic and discuss why we chose the user names that we use. I'll start:

I belong to a historical re-creation group called Das Heiligesturm Fahnlein or DHF for short. We represent the German Landsknecht military of the late 15th through early 16th century. My guild name is ZORG (pronounced Sorg) and was an actual German name from the time period.

At our main faire events I work with Black Gun Powder and make Chain Maille but the DHF group is far more involved than that. It seemed only fitting for me to use the name of that alter-ego here as well. My Avitar is also from the DHF website.

Members of our group are working on a full length motion picture. It is called EMPIRE A 4:40 teaser just became available for download. Dial-up web users can view it but I highly reccommend a broadband connection in order to get the full quality from the real player download.

I have two featured spots in the teaser. In the begining I am sitting between two other people. We are sitting around a large drum playing a dice game. We are seen getting very excited while playing. I get a close up shot at that point as well.

My next teaser shots are of me loading and packing the cannons in preporation to fire them.

It was lots of fun working on that project. Major storyline footage is still being shot and the picture is not due for release until Christmas of this year.

Anyone who wants to see it can download and watch the teaser here:

CreativeCrazy38484.9488194444No secret to my nick - I'm ADD and I live in TN.  Made sense to me.
Zorg, you probably get this all the time, but is the DHF in any way related to the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism)?
DHF can best be described as a L.O.R.E. group (Loyal Order of Reenactment Enthusiasts) we strive for historical accuracy in order to properly inform and educate faire patrons in a fun way.

SCA people are more hard-core for their own amusement and fun then for the enjoyment of on-lookers. We do, however, have people in the DHF who also participate in SCA events. Our DHF Black Powder Master is also an SCA member who participates in jousting.

Well, from age 20 to 25, I must have lived in 12 different apartments, and that life style continued up until 2001. I hitchhiked around the US and Canada in the 70s, when it was still safe. (Once you couldn't trust the owner of a VW, it was time to stop that. ) I've moved state to state, over seas, back again, and then eventually started living in a small motorhome. I also had at least a zillion jobs. Thus, Gypsy!

Chocoholic...now, you COULD change your login name, but then we wouldn't recognize you.

Hey, Mark, are you leaving out a middle name we should know about?       Also, you could change your "nick," because we'd definitely recognize you. GypsyWomyn38419.3812384259My name is incredibly uncreative - I live in BC, I'm a girl, and I was born in 1978. I wanted to register quickly and didn't really put a whole lot of thought into my screen name.

I don't have any famous ancestors, but my family name is one of the oldest recorded Anglo-Saxon names in history. It is even mentioned in the Domesday book! But I'm probably the only one who thinks that's cool...
Zorg, you probably get this all the time, but is the DHF in any way related to the SCA (Society for Creative Anacronism)?

Well, mine comes from all my daughters friends!

I always had at least 7 girls at my house at one time they lived at my house!  the girls always came to me with their problems.  and My daughter always called me momma jo, so i have become known to all the kids as Momma jo.

even if i see them in the mall, i would hear a yell "Momma Jo"  they would come running up.

so hence MOMMA JO

Oh my, my nickname, although quite fitting, seems a bit dull now!

I blame my parents

Mark, you are too funny!

WOW ZORG, that story was awesome!

Creative, yours was shorter, but really cool! I don't think I have any famous decendents

Now me on the other hand, I have so many other "nicks" (to many to mention) and all have some meaning. But I really diden't put much thought into mine b/c when I found this great place, I wanted to post a question FIVE minutes before I left for work. My hubby calls me his "lovely Latina" b/c of my Hispanic heritage. I wasn't feeling so "lovely" more like "lonely", but I just typed in Latina-Add and posted.

Well I figured my real name was better than the one I had at primary school from the nasty girls.

Now I know why I found being called "mentalhead" so upsetting!

I'm sure those girls have no idea of the trauma I've carried through life at being branded a "mentalhead" at such an impressionable age.

I have forgotten why I took this Nick name when I was 11.Ah, nice to be here, nice to be weird as well.

I've always enjoyed being different.
Other than, you know, the depression of being an outcast and flinging back boiling rage and hate at a ridiculously boring and homogenized world.

I'm working on faking some social skills though.............

(and still resisting!)

WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF ADD!
ZORG38420.9069675926My nickname is pre diagnosis.
It means I am weird and the world is trying to beat me down and out, but I am still here, still spirited and still shaking my fist!
By weird, I mean I don't fit in too well.
