Tuesday took son to doctor... | ADHD Information
I am a 28yr and after struggling with alcoholism for the last six years have been sober for about 7 months. My doctor has been with me through it all and knows me well. The subject of ADD was broached in one session about three weeks ago. He informed me it was a stimulant and that it had the potential for abuse. After trying the non-stimuant stattera and not doing well on it. It was decided to try ritalin, 5mgxa day on school days and when needed for studying. Tuesday I was switched to adderall at 10mg once a day. I guess looking over what I have written I wonder what my point was? Okay does anyone out there freak themselves out about the side effects? Confused and curious [QUOTE=Riggs]The subject of ADD was broached in one session about three weeks ago. He informed me it was a stimulant and that it had the potential for abuse. First let me congratulate you on 7 months! It's been 12+ years for me.
Now I'm a bit confused, Elizabeth, because of your post's topic...Tuesday took son to Doctor. Are you asking about yourself? or your son? If it's your son, you're concerned about, you may want to post in the Medication or Parents with ADHD Children forums above. Or if it's you, you may want to edit your topic.
I can understand your concern about "abuse" if it's you with the ADHD. However, I'm taking Concerta, a much milder stimulant. You don't feel the "up" I've seen others on this forum describe. Besides, we shouldn't be feeling that anyway with ADHD. It should just help us slow down and focus. Anyway, I've been sober long enough not to worry about abuse, but 7 months may cause you a little concern. ???
The only side effect I'm getting is less appetite, but I still eat several small meals a day, and dry mouth...so I drink LOTS of water....both recommended by pharmacist. And I was getting headaches, but that went away after a few days. And problems sleeping, and now that has gone away also.
