Meds on Vacation? | ADHD Information

kewel Sorry Gypsy. Typical of me to not answer your question. I am sailing from Miami to Cozumel and Grand Cayman! It's a 5-day cruise. I need it! Today is the first day I've taken off since Christmas.Good for you! Cuz work is not the only place we are ADHD.

Now, Lisa, do tell....where are you cruising to?!

M-F I take 54 mg of Concerta.  I am mainly innattentive and don't need the meds on the weekends.  If I do need to do something then I will take a short acting Ritalin.    My friends and boyfriends like the spontaneous, impulsive me.  I can't however be that way at work.  My job requires alot of concentration and attention to detail and deadlines.   My weekends don't.

Gypsy, Thanks for the reply. I *DO* concentrate better (resulting in better conversational skills, being able to keep up with my room key, remembering when to double down on Blackjack, etc.) with the meds. I guess I was kind of feeling guilty for medicating myself for non-work-related activities. I am on 20 mg. of Ritalin (10 X 2/day). The doc said I can play with the dosage and up the morning dose to 20 mg. if I want. I did try that last week and WOW! I didn't even need an afternoon dose. I am off today to pack and I decided not to take meds this morning. Consequently, I cannot get my mind around what to pack, and I keep getting distracted and doing other things. I think I'm gonna follow your and the nurse's advice and keep up with my Ritalin even when I don't have to work. In fact, I think I'd better go take one now or wind up on a cruise ship without underwear!

Yeah. Take 'em. I have a lot more fun when I can concentrate, and enjoy other people a lot more. I am also MUCH less impatient.
And, the Adderal XR helps with a wee bit of narcolepsy too. Helps me get past the 3pm yawning spells.
AND- I can be more in charge, which takes a load of stress off of my wife, who can relax better, and when MAMA's happy....
ADDinTN, which med are you taking and how much? That can make a difference for Ipalak. Why DO you rarely take on weekends anyway, especially if you don't concentrate, talk too much, etc. when you don't? Hmmmm? Listen to your friends. Do y'all take your meds while on vacation? I will be on a cruise for a week and wondered if I need to take my Ritalin. The doc wasn't available for comment, but his nurse said I should not alter the dose while on vacation. I'm thinking...how much concentration is required to find the pool and the bar? I just wondered what y'all do.Lisa...where are you cruising?    

Don't your meds also help with communicating? Or any of the other good things that result from focusing? I mean, we don't want you forever wandering the corridors tryng to find your room, and missing the entire cruise! If the meds were working for me, I personally wouldn't stop. Especially, since just cold stopping most of the ADHD meds can create problems. I agree with the nurse.
