Can anyone help with doctor? | ADHD Information

Thanks for responding. I appreciate it! Makes a girl feel better to have people to vent to!

I ended up with the original doctor because that's where the ER referred me (long story, went off my depression meds for a week, ended up going to the ER because I didn't have a doc in the area to help me) I would really like to go to someone that has experience with depression and adult ADD, but it's been really hard to find someone! Plus I'm really slow about doing anything at all so it takes forever to research something.

I think I would like to try a different facility altogether, it's just a matter of getting myself to do it!

I don't live in your area but with my insurance plan I can get my adderral script from a psychiatrist - who doesn't hardly talk to me and whom I rarely even really see - and can see a different type of counselor who actually listens to and talks to me for other needs.  I saw the counselor once per week for about 6 or 7 months and the insurance covered it.

Hi, Sunidesus,

You know I think that most people with add/adhd want to be accepted and we overcompensate to gain that acceptance sometimes.

How long have you been seeing this psychiatrist?

Did you dislike him right away, like at the first appointment?

Did you think it would get better over time and now it hasn't?

You do have the right as a patient to go to another psychiatrist if you are not receiving the help that you need.  I would politely but firmly remind him of that and his staff.  Ask them why they are treating you so negatively, and explain to them that your visits are not helping you right now.  If you are on a PPO, HMO, or some other type of healthplan look in the directory for another psychiatrist in your area.  Sorry I am in the south - Tennessee.  I wish I could help you more.

Good luck.....

Peace~

I too am quite dissatisfied w/my doctor (psychologist).  Didn't like him from the get go and still do not.  He seems to disregard much of what I say, and I don't feel as though he's all too empathetic, not having ADHD.  I saw him two days ago and as of last night had already made an appointment w/someone else who does have ADD as well as his wife who is in his practice as well, and his son.  I feel like he will at least be on the same page as me if nothing else!  Many replies and answers I got from the first psychologist were not acceptable.  Don't act like I don't know what I'm feeling.  And to think I drive an hour to see this guy tell me things that are not helpful!  Now I'm going to drive a mile and hopefully get better care.

Why don't you try to find a different facility altogether?  Do you have to go to the same one your original doc is in?  It'd probably make you  more comfortable to be completely out of there.

I haven't contacted my insurance company yet, do they give you any hassels when you want to change doctors?

I'm wondering if there's anyone here that knows/has a decent doctor in the RI/southeastern Mass area.

I do have a psychiatrist right now, but I can't stand him and I only keep going because he gives me my meds. I just called today to try to switch doctors (and we all know how hard just making a phone call is!) and they gave me all kinds of crap about it. They'll let me switch ONCE, but if I don't like the new person I can't go back to the old doctor or switch to anyone else on their service.

What the heck?!? I thought they were supposed to help people! And shouldn't a person be comfortable with their shrink? I would think they'd want to help me find someone that I felt could actually help me instead of just handing me scripts and saying "See you in a month."

Arrrgghhhh!!!! I'm just extremely irritated at the moment.
