Generic adderall | ADHD Information

I am wondering is it oksy to give my son one of my regular adderall 10mg in place of his extended adderall xr @ 10mg. We both are on 10mg aday dose, though his is the xr? Very unsure about this. Was not expecting to hear the doctor say there was a need for medication. A little lost. Adderall is pretty serious medication. I have been on it. My wife HATED some of my reactions to it.

I dont think you should give ANYTHING like it to your son UNTIL the DR says it's ok.

It is a good med, my wife HATES the idea of me going off it.
My boss says I have been doing grat since I started taking it.

No, it is not fine to replace 10mg immediate release for xr. Adderall XR is supposed to work throughout the day--half of the medication is released immediately; the other half is coated with wax which is released about four hours later. Therefore, 2.5-5mg of regular adderall per dose would be more equivalent to 10mg xr. People typically experience fewer ups and downs on extended release which is possibly why the doctor wants your child on extended release. It also lasts longer, which leads to less of a need to take multiple doses.I have taken adderall for a long time... regular adderall as opposed to add xr is simply this... adderall xr is time released and reg adderall only lasts for 4 hours with the same exact effects. It is perfectly fine to replace the regular tablet for the adderall xr. this is no biggy. The adderall xr only seems to last about 6hrs for me, so my doctor wrote an  Rx for 10mg 2X a day.   What is a  dose most people get of adderall????
I have been prescribed Elavil (GOOOOOD stuff), Paxil(??), Concerta, and Adderal XR in 15, 20, and now 30mg/day.  Wife hated the Elavil becasue I acted stoned all the time. I felt laminated- it was AWWWWESOME!!!!! Buuut, she told me if I ever got it again, sh'd leave me. Ooops. Paxil, well, I don't really know why I was prescribed paxil. Concerta worked okay on the ADD, but made me a little, uhh (we're adults here, right?) .. "quick on the draw" if you knowhutImean... It was baaad.

Now, with AddXR30's, clouds part, birds sing, and angels fan me with palm leaves.
Both of my kids are on the 15's, and from the Dr says, they can have 10s, 15s, my 30s split in half doses, whatever. HIS take was that XR and standard Adderal are the same, but in a staggered dispense method. XR works better for us, because we only need to remember to take it once a day.

Consult you DR always, but either should be fine in a pinch. it's the SAME drug.
Now, having READ all the posts, you WILL experience a bigger hit with the standard Adderal, but it's more brief. The xr is intended to be released over a few hours.
