LSAT and Adderall | ADHD Information

< ="">I recently took the LSAt and I did awesome on it, but I also took adderall.  I have always suspected that I had ADD, but I was against medication. I took the adderall for a couple practice tests because I didn't want to blow it again and a friend of mine, who is prescribed adderall, told me it would help. I had a lot of trouble staying focused throughout the test, although I knew the answers to most questions. I took half a orange pill the first time and it improved my score by 2 points. I then took a whole one and my score went down 2. During that second test, I was very skittish and distracted, although I had the stamina to finish. I took a test without it and my score went back up 2, but I was very tired throughout the test. For test day, I debated for a long time about taking the adderall because I felt it would be cheating although there were no regulations regarding it. In the end, I took half a pill and drank tons of red bull. During the test, I was steady and focused, but I didn't feel skittish at all. To be honest, I don't feel the adderall helped all that much, but I regret taking it cause I feel like a cheater now. I guess my question is, how much could half a dose effect me and does it really give me an advantage over other test takers? How does adderall effect people who do not have adhd? I ended up scoring 164, two points more than my average score.

Taking medication in order to focus on a test if you have a mental/learning disorder such as ADD is NOT cheating.  It does NOT give you an "advantage" of the other students if you legitimately have a disorder that makes you score UNDER your potential in the first place....

What's in your brain is in your brain.  If you know the answers, you know them...if you need a little "help" in the form of medication, herbal remedies, biofeedback, or whatever method you use in order to help treat your (doctor diagnosed) ad/hd, or whatever else you may have and to help your brain to drown out distractions and "calm down" in order to focus on the test, it should not and would not be considered 'CHEATING' on such an important test.  and If they were to consider taking medication before a test to be 'CHEATING' then that would be a direct attack to the students out there who LEGITIMATELY have AD/HD and NEED there medication in order to perform at their top potential....and they would probable have a lawsuit on their hands....

If you were to take medication and do NOT have ad/hd, it does not magically put the answers in your head.  it might make you feel strange, or make you better able to drown out distractions, and keep your mind from wondering, but it is not a magic potion to make you automatically make a higher grade on the test.  If you do not have a disorder, no problems keeping from being distracted, and you take medication, your grade would be the exact same as it would be if did not have medication ....

and let it be known, also, that I think it is a very dangerous thing to go and take medication that alters your brain WITHOUT a doctors notification or supervision, or prescription.  Medications such as adderal, ritalin, and others used to treat brain "issues" can affect different people differently, and some have been known to affect people in a negative way.  you should not be taking it if it was not prescribed to you.

and just taking a couple of doses before taking a test is NOT a good way to gauge whether or not this medication is going to be good for you.  As I mentioned above, each ad/hd individual is different there are people who actually have had psychotic reations to certain drugs, and to be doing this without a doctor's notice is not good.  I think you are going about this all the wrong way.

if you are looking for help getting your (possible) ad/hd treated, then you have come to the right place.

if you are simply looking for a drug that will make you pass your tests in school and give you and "advantage" over the other students, then maybe you should look elsewhere.

(p.s....what, do you think they would actually give blood tests to the students before giving the test to make sure they have no medication running through their veins???? that would not make sense for them to do this.)
