second day on Adderall | ADHD Information

Emily, I don't take Adderall, however, I've learned that Yes, you can start to feel the med working for you right away. And, of course, no matter what you take to help with focusing, there will always be times you can't concentrate, just like non-AD(H)D people.     I'm sure you realize Adderall, or any other med, is not a cure or miracle. You still have to do your part. But, yes, it does work soon after you've starting taking it. Good luck in your Physiology class!

This is also my second day of Adderall!  I wish I could say that I could tell a difference, but I'm not so sure.  I really don't know how I am supposed to feel.  This afternoon when I took it I felt that I got really wound up.  I dont say this in a bad way, but I guess I felt like I wanted to clean the whole house or exercise.  I think I was less hungry also.  Does anyone know what I should be feeling on this medication? How do you know if you have too much or too little?  Am I supposed to become more energetic or should I be calmer?  Typically, I am not a hyper person, but my ADD shows itself in that I am disorganized, forgetful, lack of focus, a procrastinator, etc.

I am taking the generic form of Adderall, which I'm supposed to take twice daily.  They are 10 mg tablets, and my Dr. said I could take up to two at a time, depending on how I felt.  I have only taken one at a time because I am a bit afraid of all of this.  I am a highly addictive person, and the more I read on this, the more concern I feel that I may end up having a problem with it.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Michele

Michele, I also felt a little more energetic and in a better mood. I don't know though how much the mood had to do with the medication, I think i was just excited that I thought the adderall is working. I have also notice my eyes are  dilated, I know it is a stimulat, but I don't know if it is normal.

If you aren't sure if 10mg 2 daily is working try 20mg 2x Daily and see how you feel. obviously if you don't like the way you feel on it go back to 10mg and tell your doctor what you are feeling..... I haven't been on adderall any longer than you, So that is just some inexperienced advice.

Emiiy,

Last nigh I went to bed at midnight and am up now at 5:00 a.m.  So I'm definately not liking that.  I took my last dosage at 3:00 pm yesterday, so I was surprised that I still wasn't tired at midnight last night.  Maybe I am of those freaks that have the opposite reactions to itl

I was tninking of cutting the medication in half just to see if my sleep impoves.  It is really important to me to get good sleep because I have a sleep disorder.  For that, I take Trazedone, which has been such a blessing. Maybe I'll have to increase the dosage on that one, so I can get more normal nights of sleep while on the Adderall.

Yea I had a little trouble sleeping friday night, but not so much last night. I never have been  a great sleeper. I am going to ask my doctor what I can take when I am having trouble sleeping. I have heard insomnia is common with adderall, so you aren't having opposite reactions to it. But you may want to try and take your last pill earlier.

I have  a few questions about what I should be experiencing on adderall. I was given 10mg 2-3 times a day.  Is it normal to feel a difference on only the second day of taking this medication? I feel like I was able to concentrate better on my school work. I was reading for my Physiology class and was actually able to read and really understand what I was reading. When I went back over the material I knew it. Unlike before I would go back and have no idea what I was reading.  But I was only able to sit there for 10 mins and then I would get up and do other things and go back to my school work. so I still get distracted a little bit. Is it normal for adderall to start working so soon? I was also wondering how many hours each pill lasts, I am on generic adderall (NOt extened release), if that makes a difference.

I had 20 years of insomnia before I finally got it checked out.  I was tired of laying awake night after night.  I never had a hard time falling asleep, but I had a terrible time staying asleep.  I would typically wake up around 2-3 a.m. and my head would just spin and spin with racing thoughts.  They were usually self abusive thoughts.  I could remember something stupid I did back in 6th grade, for example, and feel embarrassed inside and I'd basically torture myself with senseless thoughts.  It's amazing all the bad memories my mind could reach for.  I will say though, that my racing thoughts weren't always bad, but most.  The sleep disorder I was diagnosed with was called "Sleep Maintenance Insomnia".  I was given Trazedone, and its just changed my life!  Sleeping is great for the most parts, but still am plagued with racing thoughts if I am awoken for some reason (by the kids, or a sound, etc)  My Dr. says that the Adderall will probably help my sleeping problems from the standpoint that I wont' have all of the mind racing.

I have been on the Adderall for 4 days now, and I had 2 short but ok nights of sleep.  I want to sleep longer, so I'm trying to figure out if I should cut my dose in half or even totally elminate the later day dose.  I skipped my afternoon dose yesterday, and I slept great last night!

I am loving this medication already.  I have been accomplishing so much, and my head feels so much less cluttered.  I really hope it works for me over the long haul.

I have add inatentive type and i take 20 mg of adderall xr in the am and I have always had trouble sleeping but on the adderall it has been a bit worse but my doctor put me on ambein at night to help me fall asleep it helps some but some times when i dont take my adderal early enough i still cant sleep I go back to doctor tomarrow and i think we have to up my meds because when i first started it i was like well i feel a little different but thats now gone and i dont feel much at all  but i know for myself i didnt sleep well before the medication because when i layed down at night i have racing thoughts and stupid ones to lol anything and everything there is to think about i think about it when its time to go to sleep lol hope you find some kind of help good luck !!!!

For me, I suffered from insomnia before I was diagnosed with AD/HD. Once I started medication, I actually started sleeping. I find that if I don't take my meds or if they are no longer in my system when it comes time for bed, it's almost impossible for me to fall asleep.

MicheleRW222- If you found that skipping the afternoon dose worked well, then I would continue doing thus. However, if it didn't work well, then try taking half of the pill....from your posts, it sounds as though you may be taking too high of a dose anyways. One should not feel all "hyped" up when on meds. People who are not AD/HD often experience this, which is why the medication is so highly abused. Personally, if I take too much, I get really lax and sleepy.

Good luck to ya!
