What type of animal person are you? | ADHD Information

I am a major cat person.  Sorry not room for all the animals.

While I love cats the best, all animals seems to like me. I know people who have anything from chiquaquas to rotwhilers, and their dog will immediately take to me, even giving me kisses, and their owner will say "My, he/she has never taken to anyone like he/she does to you." But I'd adopt ALL the homeless cats, if I had the room. Ummm... I can't really vote because I love both cats and dogs equally. I have a cat, but no dog right now because I am in an apartment (don't anyone dare suggest I get a "toy" breed, those things don't count - LOL - no offense to toy lovers).

I lived in a 965 square foot appartment with two cats and my husbands large husky dog!  That was a mess!  We finally got a house, and not soon enough.  I love dogs as well.  My mom has a yorkie and he doesn't shed at all.

i love EVERTHING!!!!!!!!! EVERY CREATURE THAT BREATHS UPON THE EARTH!! i have had lizards, cats, frogs, crickets, dogs, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc!! everthing but a snake, and a tarantula and a scorpion...I would want a snake if I could convince my hubby, but that's not happening, as far as he is concerned.....but I DON'T want a tarantula--- horrid fear of spiders!!

(at one point I was considering veterinarian as a career choice.....until i found out how many more years I would have to be in school!...i changed my mind after that.)

but there is something about a rabbit, the really tame ones, that just make me love them...they follow you around the house, they HOP up with glee in their play!!  i had one that would just hop circles around my leg the moment I walked into the room.  I just think they are so sweet...too bad they need to chew so much....the ones I have had tend to find my husbands expensive electronics, and chew the cords up on them!  now, he won't let me have another one...

but he DID say he would get me a dog

I like wild animals, personally. I love to see wild critters when I'm outside and watch what they're doing.I have a horse and I swear she has the same psychological problems I do!   I've had her from birth so I know she hasn't suffered from any 'trauma' but being a prey animal she is hardwired to be on the alert for disaster so in that respect she shares my PTSD.   She also very much prefers to not be in the barn but out in the pasture.  When she is in the barn for an extended time due to weather (icy rain etc.) she will pace or in horsey terms 'weave' in her stall so I see my OCD tendencies in her too.  She is very smart, creative and personable, more of an extrovert, likes to be on the go and can tends to have excess energy (hyper??).  She can be distractible and easily bored with mundane training sessions (sounds like ADHD to me).   She loves trail rides for the adventure but thrives on routine so she doesn't get stressed out.   All those things are why I love her :)  She's complex and interesting!

I have a large, cuddly iguana.  Well, actually she's a bit cold and scaly, and not that cuddly really.  Another one of those damned impulse buys.  She was about six inches long when I bought her, now she's closer to six feet.

Mark -

I love my Lab/Austrailian Shepard mix, and he loves me.
I dig cats too, but I talk to dogs more.

TR!
I'm definatly "for the birds"! Even though I love animals in general, Tequila,my 23 yr. old Yellow Crown Amazon Parrot, has always been my best "feathered girlfriend" and soulmate. She bonded with me only months after we got her. She was 8 mos. old, so SHE has owned me her entire life She tolorates my hubby and has given him nasty bites, but as I have mentioned in my other posts,"us girls" work at the beach, have fun and make lots of money. Her "daddy" sees money in the bank, but me, the "mommy", I see a big lovable bundle of feathers, beak, goofy feet and I just LOVE listing to her sweet little sounds and words she says....but oh, those terrible screems when I ignor her! As bad as a loud smoke detector

Cat's are nice, and I've owned a horse, a rabbit, a guinea pig and some mice and fish. I find fish very dull, in fact any animal I can't kiss and hug and talk to I find to be boring. Guinea pigs are really cute and fun pets.

But (in my opinion) dogs are the best, especially Labradors, cuddly enough to give a big hug when you are feeling down.  I used to think my labrador Tilly was the only one who understood me and loves me for who I am because she follows me everywhere and doesn't take it personally when I'm feeling mad.

I told my mum I loved my 2 dogs the most in the world, then my mum, then my boyfriend, because pets are dependant on their owners and love them unconditionally so they deserve the most love in return. She didn't mind being third at all!

I have 2 dogs, and I'd have a lot more if I could, LoL.  I have grown away from cats because I have been attacked too many times by them (working at vet's, dealing w/ wild catch and release cats...they don't like to be there!).

It wasn't listed, but I also have a fish obsession.  I had about 11 tanks, but I am getting that number down.  I will end up w/ 1 turtle tank and 2 Pufferfish tanks...and a few raising snails to feed them.

I used to be really involved showing my dogs...and even starting up an aquatic society locally....but my focus faded... :)

Problem, maybe related to ad/hd:  (especially regarding dogs)

Ever have someone offer you a little mutt puppy, and then you get mesmerized by the little creatures eyes, and the "freeness" of his price (JEEZ! have you guys noticed the prices on a little pedigree pup???) and you just CAN'T SAY NO!! so you take the little guy home, and eventually he grows up, and he turns out to be the most HYPERACTIVE DOG IN THE WORLD, or either the WORSE TYPE OF DOG, FOR YOUR PERSONAL LIVING/LIFE-STYLE!! You see, I am an lazy adder, and I am more suited to have a lazy dog than a hyper one,....

but instead of saving my money up (something that's nearly impossible to do anyway) and getting the kind of breed that is suited for me, I end up settling for a free little mutt dog that eventually ends up being all wrong for me...

Then I sit around the house all day watching him bounce off the walls and destroy my house, feeling extremely guilty because it is not the dog's fault, and i am the WORST OWNER IN THE WORLD, and the dog is miserable, and he needs a home with a yard and active people, so with many tears I have to get him a better home...it's like a cycle to me....

but NEXT TIME AROUND, i am DETERMINED to save up my money, and get I nice more of a 'LAZY' breed (and a SPECIFIC BREED, this time, so i can have some sort of idea as to what he would be like as an adult...when it comes to mutt puppies, they are great pets, but you really don't know what they are going to be like as adults....), and then we can be happy content couch potatoes together!!

I am both a cat and a dog person I couldn't choose which one I would pick over the other.mjá....thats me....meow I am cat
own master but likes to be patted....but can have claws out when I am out
when irrated that usually when people are interfering usually because
they care for me but it gets on my nerves. I have a hedgehog element in
me too.... too long in defense and trying to survive afraid of getting hurt.well in loving terms I am all things lover....   I specially like the slow
animals that seem to have nailed it... and not in any hurry.... and behave
like they dont have a care in the world.

[I'm definatly "for the birds"! Even though I love animals in general, Tequila,my 23 yr. old Yellow Crown Amazon Parrot, has always been my best "feathered girlfriend" and soulmate.

I have a parrot too! Mine is a male eclectus (red sided) named Tango.  I got him as a baby, and he'll be 2 years old in June. What a lover. I kiss and cuddle him like I do my dog.

How about all of the above?  I mean, I love them all and it depends on how I am feeling and how cute they are being!Well I love all animals. I'd love to have a zoo or something. If I'm ever able to I'd start some type of sanctuary, but my favorite above all is cats. I have 3 cats already and if I ever have more room I'd love to maybe be a foster home for cats. I love all cats tigers, lions, all the wild ones and domestic. I don't know why exactly, but I've always had a strong connection to cats and am always fasinated by them. They are amazing preditors, but can also be so caring and loving.

I love both cats and dogs.  Our black lab died 6 years ago and we moved into an apartment, so it's strictly cats right now.  We have 5 Maine Coons (don't tell our landlord) prowling the apartment.  They are constant entertainment and quite dog-like; they demand a lot of attention and like to be where their "parents" are.  If we ever get back to living in a house, there'll be a couple dogs to add to the livestock collection.

I think pets may be good for people for ADHD: they're a calming influence, they are a never-ending source of unconditional love, and they demand a certain amount of structure in their lives.
