Hey, is it just me or do you all do this too?
I tend to go through phases where I'll just want one food for
breakfast, lunch, OR dinner all the time. For a couple weeks I'll have
the same oatmeal with maple syrup for breakfast, I mean, or I'll eat
peanut butter and Jelly on wheat bread every day fr lunch. With dinners
I can explain it away... I'm single and I always have leftovers.
But it's the same when I go out to restaurants! I find a food I like
there, and - bam- I get the same thing each time I go out. I crave
variety, but I get that by switching up the restaurants. At home, I'll
want to make something new - today for example I want to make miso
soup- but it seems too complicated and I end up throwing a gardenburger
in the toaster oven and throwing it on bread with bbq sauce. Ooh,
classy.
There are times when I pore through cookbooks and get all
excited, because when I'm "into" it I really like to cook and I like to
experiment with new foods. Also I try so hard to be nutritious because
I know I feel better when I'm eating healthy. But there are days when
I'll stuff my face with pizza and beer till I can barely walk, and
other days where I practically forget to eat because I'm so busy (not
that I forget- but that eating seems like such a chore I just eat a
whole row of saltines or something simply to get it over with.) I've
never been "overweight" but I've had a little pudge for years, probably
because just like I forget to eat when I'm interested in something, I
overeat when I'm bored or stressed out.
What about the rest of you guys?
Yeah, I'm the same way...except I don't often have leftovers (I also live alone), but I'm trying to eat less when I make something so I will have leftovers. I go through the cookbooks to see what I can do with what I have in the frig, and if I'm missing some ingredient, I just make what I've done in the past. Meatloaf pie ("frosted" with mashed potatoes and sauted onions). Sometimes I may eat only one thing, not a "complete" meal. Canned smoked mussels on crackers. Nothing else. Or, like you, totally forget to eat. Or just a banana w/cottage cheese or sour cream. Or just a dish of yogurt. Not very exciting, but tastes good and hits the spot. Sometimes I just eat an apple, and nothing else. Or just some blackberry jam on Ritz crackers. Or a toasted cheese sandwich. I really don't know how I managed to lower my cholesterol on the diet I eat, but I have.

oh, I thought I was going through this phase because I was pregnant....

I keep THINKING I'm pregnant because I put on a few kilograms, after developing odd cravings or only eating one thing all the time. Then I discover, no I'm not pregnant, just getting fat! Time to do exercise...
oh yes, food phases lasting 6 months to 1 year have included...fish fingers, peanut butter sandwich, cheese sandwich, salami and lettuce sandwich, spagetti, carrots, apples, yogurt, condensed milk, shredded wheat with sultanas and milk, white chocolate, reeces cups, banana sandwiches, rice cakes with cottage cheese and Vegemite, COFFEE!!
Partly I'm OCD, partly I can't remember what I had for breakfast, so I don't mind having it again for dinner.
