How do caffiene, alcohol and sugar affect you and your meds?

(Ritalin; then later Concerta) Same effects as not on the meds (although the caffeine is somewhat redundant, and much more needed on days without the meds); but caffeine, alcohol and tobacco seem more addictive while on the meds.

I'm glad you said that about eliminating sugar and upping protien. I was on Atkins when I started meds and when I went back to my old eating habits, it seemed to make a big difference.  I think I should probobly go back on an Atkins-like diet, but I hate to give up my peanut M&Ms.

I didnt drink before i went on meds

A condition to treat me my DR. had(has) was a commitment to eliminate caffeine from my diet. I guess he has strong feelings on it's counter productivity. It seemed to help to. I drank a lot of coffeee before medication and  i was much edgier then than now  and  am far more focused  now on meds  w/o caffeine

My Dr. pushed me hard to eliminate/minimize  sugar in my diet  and white flour and up protein. I eat a lot of veggies and lean meat now.  Honestly  it took a few weeks  but it made a HUGE difference. I was taking 30 mg  ritalin  20 works most days  with 25  on nights I have school.  I really think the diet changes helped a lot  they just   didnt start  helping in 20 minutes like the Ritalin did. I don't  miss either the sugar or the caffeine now  and both were major parts of my diet.  Once in a while I buy a pizza  and I feel like Sluggo the next day...I  can feel what eatting whoite flour does to my system.  I generally go off one day a week.. hey, progress not perfection.  Going off is having a Quick  160z choclate milk, pizza , a big ol plate  FF and sugar/dye loaded  heinz ketchup, or a bag of barbq chips w/ all the nasty additives...I used to eat like that 24/7. I swear  diet  really helped.
