Adderall’s Sleepy Effect Anyone? - Help | ADHD Information

Share
Hi, I am a 21 year old male that has recently been diagnosed w/ ADD.  Ive been on 150mg of Zoloft for anxiety issues for about a month.  My first experiences with Adderall were when I only took it once in a blue moon to study, and it worked wonders.  However, I just started taking Adderall on a daily basis(15mg when I wake up and 5mg around 5-6 hours later)  It has been only three days of this, but so far I am unhappy...and tired.

I have just felt sleepy, "stoned-like", less concentration, and have had a mild headache.

Has anyone experienced this?  And if so, will this just go away? Or are these signs that Adderall is not for me?  Finally, if you have had those side-effects, what medication helped your ADD and didn't cause the bad effects?

It seems that most board members have had those side-effects with Ritalin/Concerta, and then have sucessfully switched to Adderall.  I wonder if I'm the reverse.

Any help would be AWESOME...thanks.  And yes, I love the smileys.
theratblack38434.7460300926Hey theratblack, I wish I was on that much Zoloft lol no! Not sure if you've noticed, but Adderall helps a lot with anxiety for the good 4-6hrs that it's working.  To answer your question, I have been taking 20mg of Adderall when I wake up in the mornings at 6:30 AM for the last 4-5 months.  At first, it felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest, but as my body got used to the drug it calmed itself down.  At about 10:30 I would feel a "crash" or tired feeling, with a headache as if all my enery had been drained from me.  I thought I was taking XR this whole time, and couldn't understand why it made me feel so tired.  However, I learned I was taking instant release, which are only made to last 4-6hrs.  The last two days I took one 10mg tablet when I got home at 3:00 PM when my crash just seemed worse than the one earlier from 10:30 AM.  I would start to feel better, the tired feeling would fade of course, and I would be able to function another good 4 hours or so.  So I called up my doctor yesterday, and told him I wanted XR 20mg.  Got it at the pharmacy last night, and tried it today.  Well it seems to me on XR you don't get that initial boost/overwhelming euphoric sense of well being feeling of oneself you get when you take instant release, however it feels more spread out.  I did notice a lot less anxiety with XR, but felt like I was performing slower than on the instant release.  I was excited that I didn't crash at my usual 10:30 PM time.  Usually when I take instant release in the morning, I am barely able to keep up with my hand writing away.  However, on XR I took the time to write nice and neat, it was strange.  I was very irritated though, as I also was when I first started the instant release tablets.  Also on instant release, I found it very difficult to speak loudly, almost as if my voice had changed into a whisper.  On XR, I was able to speak as loudly as I wanted.  I felt tired, but yet awake at some point of the day, maybe for 30 minutes or so on XR, not the sleepy feeling you get when instant release works itself out though.  I had taken some allergy breathing medication with the XR this morning, and it could be the reason why I might've felt a little tired.  I also didn't get a lot of sleep last night, so I'll see after the weekend on Tuesday.  I did indeed crash exactly 12hours after my one dose of 20mg of XR.By the way, when I had lunch today with the XR, I noticed my jaws were a bit sore, which is unusual for me.
